In Sollentuna, natural areas, historic sites and trails for a range of activities come together. The Östra Järvafältet Nature Reserve is the part of Järvafältet located in Sollentuna. Fields and pastures alternate with deciduous and coniferous forests, wetlands and lakes. Marked trails and paths invite you to hike, ride horses and ski; rest areas, shelters and cafés add to what’s on offer.

Nature and trails around Sollentuna

Törnskogen also offers different perspectives on the landscape. Södra Törnskogen is a large, continuous forest area close to town, with a wilderness character, rocky terrain, older spruce forests and wetlands. The roughly 9-kilometre Törnskogen runt hiking trail passes through the northern and southern Törnskogen nature reserves. Trail conditions may vary by season. Bus route 527 runs from Sollentuna commuter rail station to the Törnskogen area; check the connection before you travel.

Rösjöskogen Nature Reserve includes Lake Rösjön, with easily accessible shores, older coniferous forests and open cultural landscapes bearing traces of the Bronze Age. The Rösjön runt circular trail passes lichen-covered rocky areas, oaks, beaches and meadows. The long-distance Roslagsleden trail also runs through Rösjöskogen; this section is marked in orange. Check the signs and trail conditions on site.

Tegelhagsskogen Nature Reserve can be explored on trails through forest and open landscapes and along Edsviken. There are swimming spots and designated barbecue areas; check current conditions before your visit. The Järva cycle route offers another way to combine natural and cultural landscapes: this circular route, up to 70 kilometres long, passes through Sollentuna and connects urban, cultural and natural areas between Ulriksdal and Rotebro. You can start at several points around Järvafältet. Along the way, you’ll pass old farms and cultivated land.

Discover history and culture

Edsberg Castle was built in 1760. Its furniture and interior furnishings show what the home looked like during the Rudbeck family’s nearly 200 years of residence. The castle is open to visitors on Wednesdays and Sundays from 12 noon to 4 pm, and admission is free. Opening hours may change; check them before your visit. You can walk or picnic in Edsbergsparken. A viewpoint features an outdoor fitness station, a playground and a viewing platform overlooking Edsviken.

At Klasro School Museum, you can experience a historic school day, including trying your hand at writing in a sand tray. The museum is housed in Sollentuna’s oldest schoolhouse, built in 1804. Engelska parken offers another glimpse into history: it contains 114 graves and is considered Sweden’s oldest maintained burial ground. Visitors interested in rural heritage will find the setting of a typical Uppland farmstead at Hersby hembygdsgård, with stone dwellings and wooden farm buildings dating from the 18th and early 19th centuries.

Landsnora mill and sawmill also tell the story of the area’s working past. The water-powered mill was built around 1630 and is considered Sollentuna’s oldest secular building. Milling resumed there in 1986, and the mill and sawmill are open to the public. During the annual Mill Days, the water-powered frame saw can cut large logs. Dates and operations depend on the annual programme and water conditions. The windmill in Överby, built in the mid-19th century, is still standing. On two Mill Days each year, one in spring and one in autumn, grain is milled there into flour.

Seasons and local experiences

Some experiences depend on the season or the event calendar. On Järvafältet, marked ski trails start at Fäboda or Bögs gård; the green-marked route is 10 kilometres long and ungroomed, so it requires snow. Väsjöbacken has four ski runs and five lifts, as well as a children’s slope and a fun park with rails and a halfpipe. Check the current facilities and conditions before a winter trip.

Recurring events include the Midsummer celebration at Hersby hembygdsgård and the Edsbacka market, held every September in Edsvik in Sollentuna. At Bögs gård, visitors can see farm animals such as sheep, calves, pigs, goats, chickens, horses, cats and rabbits. Heated shelters, designated barbecue areas and a nearby car park add to the visitor facilities; check their availability before you travel.

For cultural events, Stallbacken kultur offers art exhibitions and cultural activities in a former barn. In August 2026, the programme included, among other things, Thursday lunchtime events, concerts, performances and FunkisallsĂĄng, an inclusive group sing-along. Check the current programme for specific dates. In the former ox stable in Edsbergsparken, Edsvikens gelateria serves ice cream, light meals and coffee; this offer may also change.

When planning your stay, you can start by deciding whether to focus on hiking trails and nature, historic sites or seasonal events. This will help you shape your days in Sollentuna around your interests.
