Discover Sjöbo
Accommodation in Sjöbo
Sjöbo brings together marked trails and cycling routes with cultural attractions, markets and natural destinations in the surrounding area. The town has partly preserved the character of a turn-of-the-century central settlement. This gives you a wide range of options when planning your trip: sporty circuits in Oran, exhibitions and ceramics, recurring market traditions, or walks along trails of varying lengths.
Cycling, exercise and water in Oran
Oran’s outdoor recreation area is east of Sjöbo, one kilometre from the bus station. It offers six exercise loops for walking or running through varied terrain, including one illuminated loop. There are also a total of 25 kilometres of marked mountain bike trails: one green, three blue and one red route, with different lengths and levels of difficulty. The exercise loops and the colour-coded mountain bike trails are separate offerings; the colours refer to the mountain bike routes.
Another option in Oran is Orebadet. The 50-metre outdoor swimming pool has a lane for swimming training, a teaching pool and a paddling pool for small children. There are therefore different pools for different water activities, while the exercise loops and marked cycling routes focus on land-based activities.
Activity park and playground
Sjöbo Activity Park is in Malenas Park in the town of Sjöbo. Its parkour area combines concrete and steel elements on two levels and has impact-absorbing surfacing. The skate area covers approximately 1,100 square metres and includes a larger street/flow area as well as a bowl. Parkour and skateboarding can therefore be considered two distinct activities in the park, rather than being confused with the running and cycling routes in Oran.
At the Möllers mosse playground, a climbing net is suspended between oak trees. This is another specific destination for outdoor activity, separate from the facilities at the activity park.
Art, ceramics and cinema
Sjöbo Konsthall hosts exhibitions, and its adjoining creative space is open to everyone. Elfstrands krukmakeri offers a special insight into the craft of ceramics: the pottery premises are designated as a listed building and were the first in Skåne to receive this status. Exhibitions by contemporary ceramicists are held in the former pottery studio during the summer. As these exhibitions are seasonal, it is advisable to check the dates before travelling.
Flora has operated continuously as a cinema and theatre since it opened on 8 November 1939. Current films are shown there. Tickets are available online through Tickster or at the cinema box office, which opens 30 minutes before each screening. Check the film schedule again before you arrive. Another way to discover Sjöbo is the cultural heritage walking tour, whose stops have audio files available in Swedish and English.
Markets and dates
The Sjöbo Market has been held since 1864. The Mikaeli Market remains a harvest market featuring food, crafts and handicrafts. Both the location and timing of the Sjöbo Summer Market are clearly defined: it takes place at the market square in the centre of Sjöbo in July, on the Thursday and Friday of calendar week 29. The market tradition and the seasonal summer market programme thus offer different reasons to visit. Check the dates before travelling to make sure your plans fit the market you want to attend.
Walks and nature in the surrounding area
Nearby, the Fyledalen Nature Reserve offers several hiking trails of varying lengths and character. Walking, cycling and horseback riding are permitted on its trails and paths. For a specific route description, the nearby Lövestads åsar Nature Reserve has a hike of about 1.5 kilometres along the Skåneleden trail: it follows a wooded ridge and then returns along a lower-lying road.
Shorter, clearly designated destinations add to the options. Hälsogången has a blue-marked loop of 1,700 metres, while the nature boardwalk at Södra Färs bygdegård in Solvalla is 400 metres long. The X-rundan, meanwhile, is a quiz walk with questions along the route. This lets you choose between a marked loop, a shorter nature boardwalk and a walk with quiz questions, without treating the different trails as one continuous route.
