When choosing a destination for your stay, Regna offers specific points of interest for hiking, nature and culture: trails on the Östgötaleden long-distance trail network, the bathing spot at Älgsjön, the Regnaholms lövskog nature reserve, and the history of Regna kyrka. If you are looking for a hotel in Regna, these local highlights can help you choose a stay that suits your interests.

Hiking Trails and a Bathing Spot

The hiking trail between Regna kyrka and Älgsjön is part of the Östgötaleden long-distance trail network. It is easy to walk and runs almost entirely along gravel and forest tracks. There is a bathing spot at Älgsjön, where you can swim in clear, shallow water. The route description thus combines a specific trail character with a named destination by the water.

Two other hiking trails can be distinguished by their landscape. The trail between Rejmyre and Regna kyrka offers beautiful views near Lake Långtvaren. The route between Regna and Tjuttorp runs along Långtvaren and Västjuten and also offers beautiful views of the landscape. If you compare the trails by their landscape, the difference lies in the description: views near Långtvaren are emphasized on the route from Rejmyre to Regna kyrka, while the route to Tjuttorp is described as running along Långtvaren and Västjuten.

Regnaholms lövskog Nature Reserve

The Regnaholms lövskog nature reserve lies about 1.5 kilometres north of Regna, on the shore of Lake Regnaren near Regnaholm Castle. A marked 2.2-kilometre hiking trail passes through the area. Along the way are remains of clay kilns, a charcoal-burning platform and traces of a charcoal burner's hut. The route thus links the natural landscape with traces of past activities.

The very rare butterfly “svartfläckig högstjärt” has been recorded in the Hästhagen area of the nature reserve, along with 183 other insect species. This finding adds a specific species-related aspect to the landscape and trail experience. For travellers who also take nature-related interests into account when choosing a destination, this is a distinct feature of the area.

Regna kyrka and Its History

Regna kyrkby is the historic centre of the area and lies in the southern part of Lake Regnaren. The first known church on this site was built of stone in the Middle Ages. The present-day Regna kyrka was built in 1785 to plans by district building surveyor Magnus Beurling. The site's history therefore includes different building phases: the first known church and the later construction of the present church.

A major fire destroyed Regna kyrka in 1913. It was rebuilt on the old walls in 1914–1915. The sequence runs from the medieval church site through the 1785 construction to the fire and reconstruction in the early 20th century. For those interested in cultural history, the distinction between the first known church and the present building is a useful point of reference: the site's history is not just a single construction year, but several clearly distinct phases.
