Vuoggatjalme lies above the Arctic Circle in an unspoiled mountain landscape. If you’re looking for a hotel for a trip there, you can start by choosing the season based on the activities you’re interested in: several hiking trails run through the area in summer, while cross-country skiing, ice fishing and snowmobile routes add to the winter options.

Hiking Trails and Summer Excursions

The hiking trails vary in their markings and routes. On the trail to Gujjávrtjårro, the first 16 kilometers are clearly marked; beyond that, an unmarked hike leads to the summit. The Silvervägen/Guoledisjávrre–Guijaure–Vuoggatjålme hiking trail is 52 kilometers long. Another marked route through Sieldutvagge starts in Vuoggatjålme and continues via Juoron to Mavas.

Summer activities also include scenic helicopter flights. On other flights, guests are dropped off in the mountains and can hike back on foot. These excursions offer another way to experience the mountain landscape alongside the hiking routes. When planning your travel dates, it’s worth keeping track of the excursions available and their latest details.

Cultural Traces Around Guijaure

The area around Guijaure contains archaeological traces of old settlements, hearths, trapping pits and at least one older grave. Guijaure was also a historic meeting place for reindeer herders, hunters and fishers. The area was also connected to transport to the mine at Nasafjäll, which began operating in 1635.

Another historical episode takes us to Vuoggatjålme: refugees rested there for a few days before continuing their journey in stages along Sädvajaure towards Sädvaluspen. A protected area also extends east of Vuoggatjålme towards Sielutdalen. Together, these places and traces offer insight into different aspects of the landscape and its history.

Cross-Country Ski Trails, Snowmobile Routes and Fishing

There are two groomed cross-country ski trails near the farm, measuring 2.5 and 4.4 kilometers respectively. Grooming conditions may vary by season. The snowmobile rental service in Vuoggatjålme offers several models suitable for both deep-snow riding and marked trails; the fleet may change.

Snowmobile trails from Vuoggatjålme head towards Tjidtjak/Gardaure, Tjådnejaureh, Tjärnberg, Arrajaure and up into Sildutdalen. They are not always groomed, and conditions on some routes depend on the weather and snow cover. Check conditions before setting off. The Arctic Circle Snowmobile Tour starts in Vuoggatjålme and takes place in a high-alpine mountain landscape; here too, it’s a good idea to check the latest tour details in advance. One route to Laisstugan passes under Polcirkelbron, then follows Nasaleden before branching off to the cabin. Another follows Sieldutjåkkå through Sieldutvagge to Mavasleden.

The lakes around Vuoggatjålme are home to Arctic char and trout and are suitable for ice fishing; this includes the lake directly below the farm. Skidnakjaure, east of Vuoggatjålme, has a good stock of trout and Arctic char. Guoletisjaure is best reached by boat and is suitable for day trips from Vuoggatjålme focused on mountain scenery and fishing. Ikkesjaure is also best reached by boat and is one of the fishing lakes connected with Vuoggatjålme that are suitable for day trips.
