Åsnen National Park extends into Tingsryd Municipality, preserving a diverse landscape of forests and lakes in southern Sweden. Peatland lakes, open bogs, taiga, pine forests on eskers and species-rich meadows give the park a variety of landscapes. There are also hiking trails, a long canoe route and places where the area’s former craft and industrial history comes to life. When planning your trip, you can therefore give different emphasis to nature experiences and cultural attractions, rather than reducing Tingsryd to just one way of exploring.

Ă…snen, Forests and Marked Trails

Sunnabron is the main entrance to Ă…snen National Park. It has parking, shelters, toilets, fire pits and an exhibition. As conditions on site may change, check the latest information before your visit if needed. The cycling loop around Lake Ă…snen can also help with planning: it passes the Trollberget entrance.

The Hensjönäset Nature Reserve lies between Stora Hensjön and Lilla Hensjön, in a landscape characterized by beech forest. Marked hiking trails there are 1 and 2.2 kilometres long. Stenfors Nature Reserve offers a different setting, with old oak and beech forests. A cultural trail uses information boards to explain how the land was used in the past; ruins, house foundations and other traces recall the Stenfors bruk ironworks, which was founded in the 17th century and operated until the late 19th century.

For a range of trail lengths, consider the Korröleden. It runs through a meadow reserve and can be walked over a distance of about 2 to 9 kilometres. The Toftåsa myr loop, by contrast, passes through bogland and the surrounding pine forest. About one kilometre of the trail follows an old railway embankment. The municipality’s ten cycling loops offer another option: as of August 2026, four were marked in the terrain; signage may change.

Waterways and Special Places

The Värendsleden offers a different way to explore over a longer distance. This 120-kilometre canoe route passes through lakes and rivers, including both calm waters and fast-flowing stretches. Its western section runs through Åsnen National Park. The Värendsleden is suited to exploring by water, while the shorter routes are for walking.

The Korrö craft village is situated on the Ronnebyån in Tingsryd Municipality. Its old buildings give an impression of the craft businesses that once operated in the village. The Korröleden runs through the meadow reserve; the Korrö restaurant and café serves Småland and Swedish classics made with locally sourced ingredients prepared in its own kitchen. The menu and opening hours may change, so check the latest information before visiting.

Individual structures also tell stories of the area’s past. Blidingsholmsbron is a stone arch bridge with eight spans, built in the early 19th century. Beside the bridge are permanent eel-catching installations known as Värmane. Kyrkö mosse is home to a forest museum with wrecked vehicles from the 1930s. It is located on Road 119 from Ryd towards Hässleholm, about 1.5 kilometres from the town of Ryd.

Museums and Historic Landscapes

The museums differ in their collections and buildings. The Tingsås Heritage Museum focuses on an extensive photo archive with images of people, landscapes and events from the parish’s past, as well as clothing from the 19th and 20th centuries. The Väckelsång Heritage Museum is housed in a former country inn. It includes an old school museum, former church stables and an Iron Age burial ground with 46 burial mounds.

The Yxnanäs Folk Museum includes an old schoolhouse and a well-preserved country store. Its collection features stone axes and photographs; it also includes an old sawmill with a steam engine and an 18th-century dwelling. Rävemåla Hembygdspark, meanwhile, has several well-preserved buildings, including a doctor’s surgery, a watermill and a photo collection.

Further glimpses into history include the Älmeboda church ruin, with a Romanesque stone church originally built in the 12th century, and the Södra Sandsjö Heritage Museum. Its manor house was built in 1818; in Dångebo, the museum also preserves a farmstead dating from the early 19th century. Lunnabacken combines an open-air museum with a nature reserve and offers a view over Lake Åsnen. Concerts, craft days and summer festivals are held there in summer; check the specific dates in advance. The open-air museum’s buildings date from the 16th century and illustrate life in times gone by.
