Nybro offers a range of options for planning your trip: glassmaking history and design sit alongside nature reserves, parks and swimming. You can plan your stay around whether you’d like to focus on exhibitions and studios, outdoor trails or swimming.

Glass history and design

The Pukeberg glassworks was founded in 1871 by Conrad Nyström, one of the master glassblowers at the Kosta glassworks. The Design Archive is located on the former Pukeberg glassworks site. Its collection comprises around 120,000 archival items from approximately 800 designers and companies.

The Design Archive holds seasonal exhibitions. Check the specific dates if you’re planning a visit. At Ateljéhus Pukeberg, visits to individual artists in their studios can be arranged by contacting them directly. This gives you a choice between seasonal exhibitions and studio visits arranged individually.

Nature reserves and outdoor activities

Svartbäcksmåla Nature Reserve covers 345 hectares, surrounds the southern parts of Nybro and features a landscape shaped by the Ice Age, with diverse natural environments. The Svartbäcksmåla activity area has mountain bike trails, hiking and riding trails, and a disc golf course. From central Nybro, the nature reserve can be reached via footpaths and cycle paths through the Pukeberg glassworks site.

Rismåla Nature Reserve is located near Nybro. From the town centre, it can be reached via a footpath and cycle path or via the car park on Desemålavägen. The area has several shorter trails and an accessible route. Walks lead to Rismåla göl; swimming, fishing and nature experiences are also possible.

The activity options differ: Svartbäcksmåla offers mountain biking and riding, as well as disc golf, in addition to hiking trails. In Rismåla, swimming and fishing complement the shorter trails and accessible route.

Parks, swimming and local history

Svartegöl is a park in central Nybro, suitable for walks, birdwatching and picnics. If you’d like to combine these activities in a park in the town centre, Svartegöl is a specific place to visit.

Linneasjön bathing area (Strandvägen) is centrally located in Nybro, adapted for accessibility and offers good access to the jetty and water ramp. During the bathing season, toilets are available, including an accessible toilet. Bear in mind when planning that these toilet facilities are seasonal.

At Nybro swimming pool, you can swim, do laps and take swimming lessons. It also has a 38-degree hot tub. So, in addition to the bathing area, you can also choose to swim laps or take swimming lessons.

Badhusparken also reflects the history of bathing culture: its story dates back to 1883, when wooden buildings were built there for bathing and relaxation. People also drank water from a spring there that contained iron.
