In Målerås, glassworks culture and trails through the town and its immediate surroundings offer different options to focus on. Glass-related activities range from viewing finished art glass pieces to watching and trying your hand at making them. Hiking and cycling trails add routes through the landscape to your visit.

Glass, Design and Craftsmanship

Målerås is one of six well-preserved glassworks environments in Nybro Municipality. The glassworks environment is considered to be of national cultural-historical significance. At the exhibition hall at Målerås Glasbruk, you can view and buy limited-edition art glass pieces and unique works. You can focus your visit on viewing the pieces or include a potential purchase in your plans.

At the Open Glass House, you can watch glowing glass being shaped into sculptures. Check the seasonal details of this visitor experience before you travel. The “Guided Tour with Glass House Show” begins in the gallery with a retrospective of designer Mats Jonasson. Another way to learn about glassmaking is to take a 30-minute glassblowing session at Målerås Glasbruk, guided by a master glassblower: you make your own crystal object. Check booking details and seasonal availability before you travel. Watching the glass being shaped and making something yourself offer different focuses.

Handicrafts are also part of what’s on offer around the glassworks: at the House of Crafts, seven craftspeople display their work under one roof beside the Crystal Shop. Outside the factory is the Children’s Kingdom of Crystal, a glass-themed park with a creative glass playground and a miniature glassworks melting house.

Hiking Trails and Landscape

The Framtidsleden hiking trail runs through Målerås, and several cycling routes also start here. Two other trails provide specific points of comparison in terms of distance: the loop around Lake Långegöl is 2 km long and runs just outside Målerås, alongside Route 31. The Gråstensmon hiking trail in the nearby area is about 7 km long and is rated moderate. This makes the Gråstensmon trail approximately five kilometres longer than the loop around Lake Långegöl.

Gråstensmon also offers a focus on natural history. In the area near Målerås, the landscape features a stagnation moraine and wetlands with large transition mires, quaking bogs and interesting flora. If you’d like to choose your route based on landforms and plant life as well, you can take these features into account when planning.

Getting Around Målerås Glasbruk

Tåget Målerås is right next to the facilities at Målerås Glasbruk and is part of a visit there. There are four parking spaces just outside the glassworks. Check their current availability before you travel.
