Ormaryd offers several options for your trip: Lake Sjunnarydssjön to the west, nature trails and a floodlit running track, as well as railway history featuring different lines and buildings. The route information focuses on destinations and distances; the town’s history distinguishes between the station, station building and another railway line. This lets you decide in advance whether water, outdoor exercise or historical railway connections are most relevant to your plans.

Nature, Water and Trails

Lake Sjunnarydssjön lies west of Ormaryd and offers opportunities to relax. Ormaryd’s bathing area is on the lake. The floodlit running track is also west of the town, and Ormaryd has nature trails as well. The bathing area provides a specific lakeside option for relaxation, while the running track offers a different kind of activity. If you plan to use the running track, check its condition in advance. Ormaryd also has a boat landing. As facilities can change, it is advisable to check their current status shortly before your visit.

Route Destinations and Distances

The “Källan” pilgrimage route runs between Äskhult and Flisby Church and is about 22 km long. Another route runs from the source of the Svartån River in Äskhult to the bell tower in Ormaryd; it is 7.2 km long. Both routes start in Äskhult, but have different destinations. Källan is the longer pilgrimage route to Flisby, while the 7.2 km route ends in Ormaryd. To plan your trip, you can first choose your preferred destination and then consider the respective distance.

Railway History in Ormaryd

Ormaryd station opened in 1873 on the Nässjö–Oskarshamn line. The present brick station building replaced an earlier wooden station building in 1898. It is a red, well-preserved brick building and belongs to Nässjö-Oskarshamns Järnväg. The dates mark different milestones: the station’s opening in 1873 and the replacement of the wooden building with the present brick station building in 1898.

Another railway line, Anneberg–Ormaryd, opened on 29 March 1909. It had a track gauge of 600 mm, was 7 km long and closed on 1 January 1935. The years 1909 and 1935 refer to this railway line; Ormaryd station was on the Nässjö–Oskarshamn line. The two railway connections can be distinguished by their names and dates.
