Discover Bodafors
Accommodation in Bodafors
Bodafors can be explored through a variety of themes: furniture and cultural history, cycling routes and walking paths. If you are looking for a hotel in Bodafors, you can first decide which of these interests you want to shape your stay. For a specific comparison, consider the two versions of the Grusvägsrull cycling tour; there are also museum and architecture themes, as well as routes in different formats.
Culture, furniture and architectural history
Kulturgatan has been a visitor destination and meeting place with exhibitions and workshops since 2017. The specific programmes change over time. One historical connection is Julius Lehmann: in 1926, he built his marquetry workshop in Bodafors. At Villa Svea on Kulturgatan, you can see a playful interpretation of the Lehmann family’s artists’ home. The Pinnstolssamlingen adds the history of chairs to the focus on furniture. It comprises around 200 chairs; in 1982, Björn Stålsmeden, manager at Nässjö Stolfabrik, donated the collection to Nässjö Municipality.
At Bodafors kyrka, architectural history meets local craftsmanship. The old church was incorporated into the new building, which was inaugurated in 1972 and designed by Ralph Erskine. The interior was designed by Bertil Fridhagen, architect at Svenska Möbelfabrikerna. It was made locally, drawing on local expertise in furniture-making and woodworking. This church building therefore lets you see both how the old church was incorporated and the craftsmanship behind the interior. A digitally guided tour of Bodafors kyrka is also available.
Emåns Ekomuseum consists of four buildings with an interesting history. The former mill and former stable are used as exhibition and collection spaces. At Dock & Leksaksmuseet, you can see dolls, teddy bears, toy vehicles, trains, games, children’s books and children’s clothing dating from around the 1860s to the 1980s. Since 1 July 2014, the museum has been located in Bodafors, in Nässjö Municipality, in the former manager’s residence of a building dating from the 1880s–1890s. The B-fabriken is also part of the area’s industrial history: it is the only surviving older industrial building belonging to Svenska Möbelfabrikerna.
Cycling tours and local trails
Grusvägsrull starts in Bodafors and leads to Kulturgatan. The short version is 24.4 km long and the long version is 51 km; both are mainly on gravel and include sections on trails. Check route conditions before setting off, as surfaces may change over time. Kulturrundan is 44.3 km long and also leads to Kulturgatan. In terms of length, it falls between the two Grusvägsrull versions: it is longer than the short route and shorter than the long one.
There are several options for walks. Bodafors Hälsostig is an approximately 8 km walking and exercise route around Bodafors. X-rundan Bodaforspromenaden has a different focus: this digital quiz walk can be completed using a mobile phone. Bodafors Aktivitetsspår is in the south-western part of the town, is lit and winds through the landscape. It is suitable for wheelchairs, prams and walkers, and has a guiding rail along the entire route for long white canes. Usability depends on local maintenance.
Nature and practical information
A four-kilometre walk at Emåns Ekomuseum passes through twelve different natural environments with diverse flora and fauna. Just outside Bodafors, three stages of Höglandsleden meet in Vikskvarns naturreservat. Bodafors is also home to Vareviksbadet, a bathing spot on Storesjön; conditions may vary by season.
For getting here, Bodafors railway station is a useful landmark: it has step-free access and a ramp. As you plan the rest of your trip, you can weigh the interests described here against one another—for example, a museum and church visit, a particular cycling distance or a walk. This helps you decide what to focus on during your stay without combining the different trails and cultural sites into a single tour.
