Lekeryd brings together a Romanesque church and local cultural history with municipal recreational facilities at Furuvi. Church and educational history

Lekeryds kyrka is a Romanesque apse church. An apse is the usually semicircular end of a church interior; the term adds a specific architectural feature to the stylistic description. The church is believed to have been built in the mid-13th century. In 1782, Olof Rosenblad of Gränna painted decorative designs on its ceilings. The cautiously dated construction and the later painted decoration, dated to 1782, represent different historical layers. The church and cemetery are centrally located on Route 132, the old Holavedsvägen. The road is considered one of Sweden’s oldest cultural routes. Local educational history also offers specific points of interest. Sweden’s first public library was founded in Lekeryd in 1799. Lekeryds hembygdsgård is centrally located at Klockarvägen 6, adding another named place to the town’s cultural landmarks.

Activities and recreation

The recreational facilities at Furuvi include a club building, changing rooms, football pitches, running tracks and several exercise trails. The illuminated exercise trails are 1.5 and 2.5 km long; after dark, the lights are switched on until 9 pm.
