Rolfstorp combines historic traces with trails through the countryside. There are different areas of interest to choose from when planning your trip: church art and archaeological sites on the one hand, pilgrimage and hiking trails on the other. If you are looking for a hotel in Rolfstorp, you can shape your stay around whether you are more interested in historical heritage or outdoor trails.

Church and Remarkable History

Rolfstorps kyrka is a Romanesque-style church; its oldest parts probably date from the 13th century. Medieval wall paintings depicting scenes from the life of Jesus were discovered during renovations in 1962. The altarpiece dates from 1655. The church thus brings together evidence of several historical periods: a probably early phase of construction, religious art and a clearly dated furnishing.

Especially unusual is the rose growing between the panes of a church window. It may have been there for 300 years; rose experts know of no comparable example elsewhere. “Rosveckan” at Rolfstorps kyrka is associated with the roses blooming in May and coffee served between 2 and 5 p.m. Details may change; check current dates and visiting arrangements before planning a visit.

The local history extends beyond the church. A medieval castle once stood beside Rolfstorps kyrka. Namnlöse kulle, a large prehistoric burial mound, lies in the Rolfstorp area. Bockstens mosse in Rolfstorp is the discovery site where the Bocksten Man was found in 1936. Just outside Rolfstorp is Obbhults gård, an old Halland farmstead enclosed by buildings, which has existed since 1752.

Trails and Nature

Himmelsberg Nature Reserve lies between Skällinge and Rolfstorp. Several unmarked trails run through the reserve; one leads to a viewpoint in the south. The Bockstensstigen offers another point of reference: it is about 4 km long and leads to the discovery site of the Bocksten Man.

The Pilgrimsleden passes through Frillesås, Veddige, Skällinge and Rolfstorp, then turns east into Falkenberg Municipality. Check the current trail markings on site. Bockstens mosse is also listed as a suitable starting point for walks in the Åkulla beech forests.

Guided tours of Bockstens mosse can be booked through the Hallands kulturhistoriska museum. This information adds another planning option to the hiking guidance: you can explore the moor as a starting point for walks or find out about guided tours.
