Löjenäs by Lake Södra Färgen
Accommodation in Löjenäs
Löjenäs is situated on a promontory that extends into the eastern part of Lake Södra Färgensjön. The village is loosely built up and includes several larger farms. Its location and settlement pattern give the place a distinct rural character.
Landscape by Lake Södra Färgen
Löjenäs’s historic cultural landscape is partly well maintained and includes hay meadows and natural pastures. Löjenäs is considered a beautiful cultural landscape, with views over Södra Färgen. The open areas are as much a part of this landscape as the views across the lake. In the Hägnen nature reserve, a different type of landscape can be seen: the reserve is a hilly promontory in Lake Södra Färgen, near Femsjö. It is home to old beech forest and mixed forest of pine, birch, beech and oak. Beech occurs in two types of woodland: as old beech forest and as one of several tree species in the mixed forest. The open hay meadows and pastures of Löjenäs therefore differ from the wooded Hägnen promontory in specific landscape features.
Cultural history around Femsjö
Another cultural and historical connection is the nearby church of Femsjö. It preserves a granite baptismal font from the 14th century. The church also houses a Madonna and Child carved from wood, standing on a crescent moon and dating from the early 16th century. The works differ both in material and in date: the stone baptismal font is accompanied by a carved wooden figure from a later period. This comparison brings the chronological and artistic range of the church’s heritage to life.
Löjenäs is also included in the cultural environment programme. The Femsjö district is considered an area of international importance for mycological research and has significant geological, cultural-historical and biological value. The cultural references relate to different scales: inclusion in the cultural environment programme applies to Löjenäs, the works of art are located in the church of Femsjö, and the values mentioned concern the wider Femsjö district. This makes it possible to distinguish between local history, church art and the regional context.
Historic traces between Löjenäs and Hökhult
In the wooded terrain along the old village road between Löjenäs and Hökhult, the remains of Löjenäs’s old soldier’s cottage, Dammatorpet, can be seen. Piled-up stones bear witness to cultivated farmland. Persbo was a baking cottage. The two places represent different historical traces: Dammatorpet is associated with a soldier’s cottage, while Persbo is associated with a baking cottage and former agricultural use.
Cycling route and fishing permits
The Hylteslingan cycling route runs between the lakes Södra Färgen and Mellan-Färgen. Fishing permits for the nearby Färgensjöarna lake system are available through Färgensjöarnas FVO. These leisure activities are described in different geographical terms: Hylteslingan is located between two lakes, while the permits are offered for the lake system. This gives you a named cycling route and fishing permits to consider when planning your trip.
