Discover Simlångsdalen
Accommodation in Simlångsdalen
Simlångsdalen combines hiking trails, lakes and cultural history. If you are looking for a hotel, you can plan your trip around the features that interest you: trail lengths, activities on the water or local history. The trails vary in length and route; the water-based and cultural offerings also have different focuses.
Hiking and scenery
Simlångsdalen has around ten hiking trails through unspoilt nature, along beautiful lakes and through forests that seem straight out of a fairy tale. The Hallandsleden passes through the centre, then follows the route of the old railway line and descends towards the Fylleån at Brogård. Two areas are also easy to distinguish when getting your bearings in the hiking area: Most of the trails in the southern area can be reached via the bathing area by Brearedssjön, next to Vargaslätten Garden. The northern hiking area begins at the old Simlångsgården farm in Gyltige.
The circular trails can be compared by length and route. The Simlången Circuit is eight kilometres long; its eastern end runs through the Bröda and Veka nature reserves. The Brearedssjön Circuit is 4.2 kilometres long and goes around the lake. This gives you a choice between a longer circular trail with a section through two nature reserves and a shorter loop around a lake. Another notable feature of the landscape is Klövaberget, with its 30-metre-high, 100-metre-long cliff face.
Longer routes are also worth considering. The 250-kilometre Banvallsleden runs from Simlångsdalen along a former railway line through varied terrain. South of Simlångsdalen, the Danska fall nature reserve and waterfall are located within Halmstad Municipality. The Gårdshultleden passes the waterfall and continues to the Gårdshult Nature Reserve. On the Smedhultaleden in the nature reserve, you can reach the Halmstad Hill viewpoint, which offers far-reaching views across Halmstad.
Lakes and activities on the water
You can swim in the freshwater of Brearedssjön, next to Simlångsdalen. Fishing is possible in the lakes Gyltigesjön, Töddesjön, Simlången and Brearedssjön, as well as in part of the Fylleån river. This gives you a choice of different waters and activities when planning your trip: swimming in a lake or fishing at one of the lakes listed, or along the river.
Canoe and kayak rentals, beginner courses and expeditions are available for exploring the local waterways. Check seasonal availability before your trip. Nature-inspired culinary walks and outdoor cooking courses can also be booked; check for current dates in advance.
Local cultural history
Vargaslätten is a 14-hectare Gesamtkunstwerk where architecture, handicrafts, art and nature come together. Work on it began in 1917. The architect Sigfrid Ericson and his wife Ruth bought the property and named it Vargaslätten. The Breareds Lanthandelsmuseum features a 19th-century shop, an adjoining home dating from the 1920s to the 1940s, and a school museum. The two places offer different historical perspectives: Vargaslätten brings architecture and art together with nature, while the museum combines the history of shops, homes and schools.
