Discover Bergsjö: Trails, Forest and History
Accommodation in Bergsjö
If you are planning a stay in Bergsjö, you can focus your interests on specific themes: a walking trail through the town, the landscape around Bålleberget, historic buildings or facilities in the centre. This makes it easier to weigh up whether exercise, cultural history or getting your bearings in town is especially important for your trip.
Walks, forest and views
The Bergsjö runt walking trail is three kilometres long and runs through Bergsjö. It offers a different way to get to know the area than climbing Bålleberget: several steep sections lead up the mountain, and the route requires some effort. If you are planning a hike, you can take these different route descriptions into account.
Old coniferous forest of spruce and pine grows on the eastern and southern slopes of Bålleberget. The upper part of the steep slopes offers views of Bergsjö and Storsjön. Forest, sloping terrain and views are therefore the defining features of this landscape; the climb itself is characterised by its steep sections and the physical effort required.
Fishing may also play a role in planning your trip. Bergsjö Fiskevårdsområde has fishing waters that include lakes and running waters. These types of waters offer a distinct focus alongside walks and the climb at Bålleberget.
Historic buildings and art
Bergsjö Hembygdsgård is located at the local heritage park in the centre of Bergsjö. The grounds include Östigården, a family farm dating from the 17th century. The farm acquired its present appearance in the early 19th century. Its origins and later appearance thus point to two different periods in its architectural history.
Öststugan also stands at Bergsjö Hembygdsgård. It is the birthplace of Jon-Erik Öst. Together with Östigården, it provides another specific point of reference for the town’s history, although the two buildings do not have to serve the same historical function.
Bergsjö Church offers a distinct connection to art: its chancel wall is decorated with paintings by artist Albert Blombergsson from 1845 to 1856. If you are interested in historic art, this period adds another chronological reference point to Östigården’s architectural history.
Facilities in the town centre
Bergsjöparken is centrally located in Bergsjö at Stationsvägen 10B, above the bus station and sports ground. Bergsjö bio is also in the centre, at Södra vägen 4. The library in Bergsjö is the main library for Nordanstig Municipality and therefore serves the municipality as a whole.
For 2025, the reception at the municipal building at Södra vägen 14 was listed as an InfoPoint with Wi-Fi. If you plan to visit this information point, check its current operating status in advance. The address and the other facilities mentioned can help you distinguish between different interests in the town when planning, rather than combining them into a single itinerary.
When choosing a hotel in Bergsjö, the themes described can provide an initial framework: a walk through the town, a more strenuous climb with views, fishing waters, or historic art and buildings. Which of these is most important for your stay depends on how you want to spend your time in Bergsjö.
