If you choose Delsbo as a destination for a stay, you’ll find a range of highlights: church and local history, textile traditions, a festival, heated swimming and outdoor activities. The Sjuvallsleden adds a 31-kilometre hike through hilly terrain to the options.

Church, architectural history and collections

The first stone church on the site of Delsbo Church was built as early as the 13th century. In 1892–1893, Delsbo Church was converted into a three-aisled basilica, a form of architecture that is unusual in Sweden. Three-aisled describes a church interior with a central nave and two side aisles; this explains the spatial layout behind the term. Delsbo Church also houses several medieval sculptures, including a depiction of the Virgin Mary. The architecture and sculptures each offer a different emphasis: the basilica form shapes the view of the conversion, while the figures highlight medieval art.

Delsbo Forngård consists of old, well-preserved farmsteads and buildings from the surrounding area. The collection of buildings offers a different way to explore local history than the single church: here, farmsteads and buildings set the theme. Exhibitions at the Dräkt- och Textilmuseum include Delsbodräkterna, Delsbosöm, Delsboknyppling and näversöm. These different names offer several specific points of interest if you’re interested in textiles. The agricultural museum in Delsbo offers another perspective, with collections comprising several hundred objects.

Festival, swimming and outdoor activities

Delsbostämman is Sweden’s oldest spelmansfest (traditional folk musicians’ festival) and takes place every year on the first Sunday in July. It begins with a ride in a church boat on Lake Dellen to the church. A festive church service follows, featuring, among other things, folk dancing; musicians and visitors then make their way to Delsbo Forngård, where the festival begins. If you’re planning your trip around the event, check the dates in advance.

Utebadet i Delsbo offers heated swimming in water at 27 degrees or warmer. Björkparken is in the centre of Delsbo and offers opportunities for skateboarding, cycling and inline skating. If water temperature matters to you, Utebadet provides a specific point of reference; Björkparken, by contrast, is defined by its three activity options.
