Furuvik on the Gävle Coast
Accommodation in Furuvik
Furuvik is located on the Gävle Coast, by the Baltic Sea. Furuviksparken combines a zoo and amusement park with a water park; around the town, there are also swimming spots by the sea and a lake, walking trails and a guest harbour. If you’re looking for hotels for a stay in Furuvik, it’s worth deciding what you want to focus on before planning: the park and animal experiences, the coast and swimming, history, or travelling by different modes of transport.
A day at the park: rides, water and animals
Furuviksparken opened on 17 August 1900 and is a zoo and amusement park with a water park for the whole family. The park and water park operate seasonally; the park programme and facilities may change. So check the visiting dates and current offerings before planning your day. Äventyrspoolen has a large swimming pool, two water slides, a children’s pool and an adventure tower. The rides include Sweden’s only interactive dark ride and a roller coaster that runs both forwards and backwards.
The Djurvisningar offer a glimpse into a zookeeper’s daily work. As part of the Djurvisningar, you can also book an animal experience with particularly close contact with the animals; availability and seasonal dates may change. Pelle Svanslös and his friends offer character meet-and-greets and colourful performances. This programme is also seasonal and may change.
A look at the history of Furuviksparken
On its own island in Furuviksparken, you can experience Swedish history in a former military bunker. The historical focus offers a different experience from the rides and animal encounters. Access arrangements may vary; find out in advance how visits to the bunker are organised.
Swimming spots and coastal walking trails
The Furuvik area has several swimming spots, both by the sea and by a lake. This means there are waterside spots in two different settings, alongside the seasonal water park. Walking trails add an opportunity to explore the area on foot to the swimming spots. Swimming spots and seasonal conditions may change; check them before your swim.
Getting there by train, bus, bicycle or boat
Furuvik is accessible by train, bus, bicycle, car, taxi or boat. The railway platform is right in front of the main entrance to Furuviksparken. Bus route 501 runs from Gävle to the “Furuvik” stop. If you’re cycling from Gävle, you can take the paved, illuminated cycle path to Furuviksparken. For trains and buses, it’s a good idea to check the latest timetables, as routes and connections may change.
You can moor your boat at Furuvik Gästhamn. There’s room for about 20 to 25 boats; a 145-metre-long stone breakwater protects the harbour. Capacity and conditions at the harbour may change. If you’re planning to arrive by boat, check in advance whether a berth is available.
Fish and seafood at Furuvik Havskrog
Furuvik Havskrog serves fish, seafood and other specialities. The menu may change; check the current selection before dining.
