Hanebo: Church History, Nature and Regional Culture
Accommodation in Hanebo
There are several different themes to choose from for a stay in Hanebo: the history of Hanebo Church, nature around Kyrkbytjärnen and places to visit nearby. Cultural heritage, a model museum and cultural venues in Kilafors are also part of the picture. If you are looking for a hotel, choosing between architectural history, hiking trails and regional culture can help you decide what to focus on during your trip.
Church history and landscape around the church
Hanebo Church already existed at the beginning of the 14th century. Some parts of the masonry may date from the late 12th or early 13th century, based on their appearance.
Kyrkbytjärnen is part of the natural landscape around the church area in Hanebo. The area therefore brings together two distinct aspects: architectural history and landscape.
Forest and hiking trails nearby
The Djupsjön-Römmaberget Nature Reserve includes old-growth forest, wetlands around Djupsjön and a 450-year-old pine. There is a car park and a rest area on the north side of the lake; from there, a trail leads into the old-growth forest. The terrain varies from one section of the shore to another.
At Kölberget, a hiking trail leads to a viewpoint at the summit. It passes through rocky areas, boulder-strewn terrain and older spruce forest.
Summer pasture and trails at Knupbodarnas summer farm
Nearby Knupbodarnas summer farm is one of the best-preserved summer farms in Hälsingland and dates back to the late 17th century. The site includes about 20 wooden buildings. The Hälsingeleden trail passes through the summer farm; a trail of about two kilometres at Knupbodarnas leads to the summit of Digerberget.
Cultural sites and historic traces
The Ol-Nils family history can be traced back to 16th-century tax registers. In the 2026 Hälsingehambon programme, the first stage starts at the Ol-Nils farm in Hårga.
The Sven-Olles Model Museum at Museilogen in Bofara displays models and inventions. The entire Museilogen site in Bofara has more than 200 exhibits. In Kilafors, Lövlundsskolan is a well-preserved village school.
Sävtorpet in Acktjära, Linskäkten in Svedja and the Edhs Carpentry Museum can be visited through the Hanebo Local History Association. Arrange your visit directly with the association to confirm the arrangements for your chosen date.
Cinema and events in Kilafors
Biografteatern Kilafors has two auditoriums: a cinema auditorium with 194 seats and a smaller room called Mingelsalongen. Films are shown at Biografteatern Kilafors at least once a week; concerts and theatre performances are also frequently held there. The programme may change, so check the current schedule before your visit if you are planning to see a film or performance.
