Discover Bollnäs: Culture, History and Nature
Accommodation in Bollnäs
Bollnäs combines culture, history and a variety of reasons to visit. Medieval church art, a museum showcasing local history and summer events form the cultural highlights. There is also a swimming spot, outdoor historical attractions and winter sports. To plan your trip, it helps to choose what to focus on: cultural events, an excursion into the countryside or winter sports each offer a different experience.
Culture and History
Bollnäs kyrka was built in the 14th and 15th centuries. Alongside Vadstena Abbey Church, it houses Sweden’s largest collection of medieval church sculptures. The construction period and the collection of sculptures offer two different perspectives on the medieval heritage: when the church was built and the significance of its church sculptures.
In the centre of Bollnäs is Bollnäs museum & konsthall, a well-established art gallery with changing exhibitions throughout the year. The venue also includes a museum about the town’s history. The exhibition Bollnäsbarnen focuses on the lives of children and young people in Bollnäs around 1900. The cultural offerings thus range from art and local history to a clearly defined topic in social history: the everyday lives of young people in a particular era.
Kulturkvarteret Bollnäs offers a varied programme of music, dance, art and other cultural experiences. At Kulturhuset Bollnäs, visitors can find all Kulturkvarteret events; tickets can be purchased at reception. Kulturhuset is located right in the centre of Bollnäs. There are parking spaces and accessible parking spaces directly in front of the building. If you would like to include a specific cultural event in your trip, check the event dates in advance.
Excursions and Activities
On Onbacken, landscape and history come together. The site is on a hill overlooking Varpen and the Ljusnan. Information boards guide visitors on a walk through the Iron Age. This gives the walk both a scenic and a historical focus.
Folkets Park on Långnäs udde dates back to the 1920s. In summer, it hosts events featuring local and visiting artists, as well as a range of fun activities for children and young people. Långnäs is a centrally located swimming spot on Långnäs udde, with a sandy beach and large lawns. Långnäs udde therefore offers different things to enjoy: the park’s summer events and activities, and Långnäs as a swimming spot with a beach and lawns.
There is also a specific departure point for trips on the S/S Warpen: all trips start at the pier in Långnäs marina.
In the nature reserve, Bolletjärnen is a destination for the whole family and forms the natural focal point of the reserve. An accessible path leads there, and there is parking at the trailhead. The destination, path and parking are all clearly identified as practical points of reference for the trip.
