Discover Culture and Nature in Cerceda
Accommodation in Cerceda
For a trip to Cerceda, several themes go hand in hand: archaeological and religious heritage, museums, environmental education, gardens and waterside scenery, as well as a water attraction. There is also a food festival held on a fixed date in July. If you are looking for a hotel in Cerceda, you can start planning your trip by considering these themes: the key question is whether collections and history, nature, or a particular event date will shape your stay.
Museums and Environmental Education
The Museo do Moucho comprises more than 5,000 objects. These include sculptures and paintings by Galician artists, books and goldsmiths’ work. The collection thus ranges from visual art and printed works to pieces crafted from precious metals, offering a varied perspective on collecting and artistic creation.
The Ecomuseo interprets Cerceda’s natural environment, history, economy and society. Its scope therefore includes both natural conditions and the municipality’s social and economic life. Unlike the Museo do Moucho, whose collection comprises art, books and goldsmiths’ work, the municipality itself is the thematic focus here.
The Aula da Natureza is also dedicated to learning about the environment. It is located near the Cabancos River and is integrated into the natural area formed by the riverside promenade and Botanical Garden. This gives environmental education a tangible connection to the river, promenade and garden, in addition to the thematic perspective of the Ecomuseo.
Archaeology and Architectural History
Several places offer different points of connection to Cerceda’s history. Castro de Cerceda is an archaeological site of the Castro culture, where a gold torc was found. This discovery makes a specific object part of the local archaeological story. The Church of San Román de As Encrobas was built towards the end of the 12th century and later remodeled several times. Its architectural changes are therefore part of its history, alongside its original construction date. Pazo de Boedo was designated a Site of Cultural Interest (Bien de Interés Cultural) in 1994. The history of a discovery, ecclesiastical architectural history and formal heritage designation thus represent different approaches to historical heritage.
Gardens, Lakes and Landscapes
Cerceda Botanical Garden is used for walks and recreation, as well as education and information about local biodiversity. These purposes connect the use of the garden with learning about the local variety of species; experiencing nature and gaining knowledge go hand in hand here. Fervenza do Lago das Encrobas offers a different perspective on the landscape. It lies on the left bank of Lake As Encrobas, also known as Lake Meirama, within the municipality of Cerceda. The lakeshore and waterfall form a point of interest in the landscape that differs from the designed garden.
Among the sights along the Cerceda route are mills on the LengĂĽelle River and a wooded landscape. This brings the landscape itself into focus as a distinct feature, alongside individual facilities and buildings.
Activities and Event Dates
The Kamikaze slide at Aquapark Cerceda has a 54-metre descent. This feature offers a different focus from the walks, recreation and environmental education at the Botanical Garden: here, a single attraction and its descent take centre stage, while the garden offers opportunities to enjoy the grounds and learn about local biodiversity.
The calendar may also be important when planning your trip: the Festa Gastronómica do Cochiño takes place in Cerceda on the last Saturday in July. If you plan to attend the festival, check the date and program for the relevant year.
