Discover Visantoña
Accommodation in Visantoña
Plan your trip to Visantoña around specific interests: the PR-G 125 Sendeiro de Visantoña trail, the Embalse de Portodemouros reservoir, archaeological sites and musical history. When looking for a hotel, consider whether you would prefer to devote your stay to a route, cultural sites or musical traditions.
The Route and Embalse de Portodemouros
The PR-G 125 Sendeiro de Visantoña trail starts at the clubhouse of the Asociación O Noso Lar in Seoane. The trail consists of the main route and a short out-and-back section; in total, it is 14.48 km long. You can also experience the Embalse de Portodemouros reservoir along the trail. The total length and the distinction between the route sections give you specific points of reference for planning.
From the N-547 near Arzúa, the route leads via the AC-7901 towards Santiso, then branches off towards Visantoña. If you follow this sequence of roads, check road conditions and signage before setting out. Around the reservoir, adventure tourism companies offer canoe trips and windsurfing lessons. If you are planning one of these activities, check in advance which providers and options are currently available for your trip.
Cultural History and Music
The Pazo de Vilar de Ferreiros is first mentioned in a will dating from 1485. The Banda de Música de Visantoña was founded at the pazo in 1877. A 2017 account describes the Banda as the oldest Galician music band.
The feast of San Agustín is listed for Visantoña on 28 and 29 August. If you want to plan your stay around these dates, check that year's programme before travelling.
Places and Archaeological Sites
Two names offer particularly specific points of reference: the PR-G 125 starts in Seoane, and the Igrexa de San Xoán de Visantoña stands in the centre of the settlement. The Pazo de Vilar de Ferreiros is in the place of the same name within the parish of Visantoña.
The base of the Cruceiro de Visantoña, also known as the Cruceiro de Seoane, features skulls, animal figures and bones. At the Castro de Vilar de Ferreiros, parts of the defensive ditch and rampart are well preserved; at the Castro de Seoane, part of the outer defensive wall remains. The Mámoas do Ribeiro are a group of prehistoric structures on a hill above the valley. These sites therefore differ in their features: figurative details on the cruceiro, defensive structures at the castros and prehistoric structures at the mámoas.
The Área Recreativa de Valiñas has tables, swings and barbecue grills beneath oak and pine trees. Alongside the area's historical and archaeological sites, it also offers specifically described facilities for an outdoor break.
