Rianxo brings together coastal walks, literature, architectural history and maritime culture. If you’re looking for a hotel in Rianxo, you can start planning your trip around these interests: would you like to explore paths by the water, learn about the poet Manuel Antonio, or focus on churches, historic buildings and maritime themes? The sites and routes offer different points of interest and give you practical starting points for planning.

Riverside walks and routes in Rianxo

The Do paseo marítimo ata a praia da Torre route begins in the town centre and runs along the waterfront promenade, with views over the Ría de Arousa. Beyond Praia da Torre, the route can be continued along a path through coastal vegetation towards Punta de Iñobre and the Peirao de Taragoña. The route described therefore leads from the promenade to the beach and can then continue along the coastal path. Another route, Un paseo por Rianxo, begins at Praza de Castelao and ends at Praia de Tanxil. These named destinations offer clear points of reference if you’d like to include these walks in your stay.

Manuel Antonio: birthplace and museum

Casa de Manuel Antonio is the birthplace of the poet Manuel Antonio, who was born there in 1900. Since 2011, the house has been home to the Casa Museo de Manuel Antonio. Visitors can trace the life of the avant-garde poet there. The collection includes family furniture, photographs, letters, personal belongings, original documents and audiovisual material. The site therefore combines its significance as the poet’s birthplace with a museum dedicated to Manuel Antonio. The different types of exhibits—from letters to audiovisual material—each offer their own perspective.

Churches and historic buildings

Igrexa de Santa Comba de Rianxo is a single-nave granite church dating from the 15th century. Its portal dates from the 16th century and its tower from the 18th century. The different construction periods can therefore be distinguished by specific parts of the building. For reference, the church is about a 300 m walk from Praza de Castelao.

Castelo da Lúa is also part of Rianxo’s history. It is considered the only surviving medieval archaeological site in Rianxo and was probably built by Paio Gómez Charino in the 13th century. Pazo de Martelo, meanwhile, dates in its present form to the late 17th or early 18th century; an older building with a tower had previously been demolished. Casa de Castelao showcases another facet of Galician coastal architecture: it is a typical urban building found in coastal towns, dating from the late 19th or early 20th century. Its façade features balconies and a gallery.

Hórreo do Araño is the longest granary in Galicia and has the greatest capacity. It stands beside Igrexa de Santa Baia. This site therefore brings together an exceptionally large granary and a neighbouring church.

Maritime culture, festivals and nature

Museo do Mar de Rianxo is housed in an old building called Casa do coxo. It explains how traditional boats are built and how local residents obtain food from the sea. These subjects offer visitors a glimpse of maritime work and livelihoods. A different perspective on nature can be found at the mouth of the River Ulla in Rianxo, an area distinguished by its unique setting and diverse flora and fauna.

Festividade da Virxe de Guadalupe is designated a Galician festival of tourist interest. The highlight is a maritime procession: the Moreniña is accompanied on a sailing boat by more than 100 boats. A group sing-along in Praza de Castelao is a regular part of the festivities’ finale; the specific programme may vary. If the festival is a deciding factor for your trip, check the dates in advance.
