Mont-Roig Del Camp: Old Town, Coast and Nature
Accommodation in Mont-Roig Del Camp
Mont-Roig Del Camp can be viewed from several perspectives when planning a trip: historic traces in the old town, the coastal landscape, and paths connected with nature and art. If you are looking for a hotel, these themes can help you decide what kind of stay you want.
Historic traces in the old town
The medieval Portal de la Canal has been documented since 1426. A walk or visit to the old town also brings the Old Church and the New Church, portals, remains of the old town wall, the former prison, and the public washing places into view. Churches and entrances, wall remains, and former everyday places offer different historical points of interest in the old part of town.
A path leads from Portal de la Canal towards Les Hortes and the public washing places. From there, you can follow the remains of the once-walled town along Carrer de la Murada. This route adds a sequence of paths and historic traces to the picture formed by the individual buildings.
Coast and wetlands
The coast of Mont-Roig Del Camp stretches for more than 12 kilometres; its features include quiet coves, fine sand, and areas of high ecological value. One coastal wetland is Estany Gelat: it contains brackish water and is part of the Natura 2000 network.
The Llastres wetland near Punta del Riu is directly connected to Punta del Riu/Cristall beach and is associated with the mouth of the Llastres stream. The two wetlands have distinct characteristics: Estany Gelat is notable for its brackish water and Natura 2000 status, while Llastres is defined by its relationship with the stream mouth and the beach.
Red rocks, paths and art
The Ermita de la Mare de Déu de la Roca stands on a red-rock cliff and is designated an Espai d’Interès Natural. The small Ermita de Sant Ramon de Penyafort is located above it. It has been documented since the 16th century and historically served as a landmark for fishing boats.
Several hiking and mountain biking trails converge on La Roca mountain, including the GR-192. The “Camà Vell de l’Ermita” path starts in the upper part of Mont-Roig Del Camp and takes about 25 to 30 minutes. These details offer different points of reference for navigating the routes: La Roca has several types of paths and the GR-192, while the Camà Vell has an approximate duration.
The “El paisatge emocional de Miró” route, included in the Mas Miró audio guide, leads to various signposted places and landscapes depicted by Miró in internationally recognised works of art. It thus connects artistic motifs with specific places and landscapes. The Centre Cultural Església Vella hosted the official presentation of the 2026 exhibition cycle; the programme brings together cultural heritage and contemporary creativity.
The local character also includes Mont-Roig Del Camp’s extra virgin olive oil. It is made from hand-harvested Arbequina olives, cold-pressed, and protected by the Siurana PDO.
