Els Guiamets lies in Baix Priorat, on the border with Ribera d’Ebre. The municipality is shaped by the northwestern foothills of the Tivissa mountains and Mola de Llaberia. The Pantà dels Guiamets, the Riera de Capçanes, historic sites and hiking routes offer different perspectives on the destination. You can therefore consider the landscape, local history and specific routes separately when planning your trip.

Landscape and geographical orientation

The Riera de Capçanes drains Els Guiamets and is a tributary of the Siurana. Most of the Pantà dels Guiamets lies within the municipality; the reservoir has a capacity of 10 hm³. Together with the northwestern foothills of the Tivissa mountains and Mola de Llaberia, these geographical features shape the municipality. If you also base your choice of destination on the landscape, the combination of mountains and water offers a useful point of reference.

Church, festival and remembrance

Sant Lluís is the parish church of Els Guiamets and was built in 1791. The Festa Major takes place from 20 to 25 August in honour of Sant Lluís and Sant Fèlix. If you plan your trip around these dates, check the schedule in advance.

Another point of cultural and historical interest is the memorial to Neus Català. Its plinth bears the words “porto terra dels Guiamets a les sabates”. The Tosseta archaeological site also extends the historical timeline: almost a hundred flint blades from the Upper Palaeolithic were found there. Tosseta is one of Catalonia’s most significant groups of prehistoric finds. The history of the church, festival traditions, remembrance and prehistoric archaeology therefore offer distinct themes to explore.

Cooperative winery and wine

The Celler Cooperatiu was founded in 1917. The cooperative winery is now part of the company Unió and produces red wine, white wine and mistela. This provides a way to understand the local connection to wine through the winery’s history, its current affiliation and its specific range of products. As the structure of producers can change, check the latest information if this is of particular interest.

Routes and places to visit

The Volta a la Serra de Llaberia circular route includes the 3.5 km Capçanes–Els Guiamets section and the 5 km Els Guiamets–La Serra d’Almos section. The difference between the stated distances is 1.5 km. This comparison offers a concrete point of reference if you are deciding between the two sections.

Itinerari 3 connects Falset, El Masroig, Els Guiamets and Marçà, then returns to Falset. Despite its length, it is considered relatively manageable because it has no steep climbs. While the Volta a la Serra de Llaberia gives the distances of individual sections, Itinerari 3 describes a longer sequence of places. Font de la Portadora is also a place to go on an outing and enjoy nature. Check the current trail and terrain conditions before setting out.
