Bot offers several ways to shape your stay: the Via Verda along a former railway line, hiking trails of varying lengths and difficulty levels, local festivals, and experiences centred on wine and olive oil. If you’re looking for a hotel in Bot, these themes can help you choose the focus of your trip—whether you’d rather hike, cycle or get to know local traditions.

Via Verda and trails through the landscape

The Via Verda in Bot follows a former railway line that has been converted into a nature trail for walking, cycling or horse riding. The Antiga EstaciĂł de Bot is next to the town and offers an easily accessible starting point for the Via Verda. On the section between Bot and Horta de Sant Joan, the route passes through vineyards, olive groves and mountain landscapes. Features along this section include tunnels and viaducts, including a viaduct over the Riu Canaletes.

For a hike along a clearly defined route, there are trails with different profiles to choose from. The easy, 4 km Bot–Ermita de Sant Josep–Forat de la Donzella route passes through cultivated land and pine forest before returning to Bot. The similarly easy, 6 km Bot–Cova de la Gàbia–Molandins route reaches the Cova de la Gàbia, considered a notable waterfall when there is enough water.

The moderate Bot–Mudèfers–Camí de la Serra–Via Verda route is 12 km long. It follows tracks and forest paths and offers views of Bot’s agricultural and forest mosaic. Another moderate option is the 13 km circular Bot–Prat de Comte–La Fontcalda hike: it starts and ends in Bot and leads to the open-air thermal baths at La Fontcalda in the valley of the Riu Canaletes.

The route to the summit of Migdia has a specific difficulty restriction: it is recommended exclusively for experienced hikers. The final section includes a technically challenging rock face. An easy cycling route in the area around Bot follows a paved path through the valley of the Riu Canaletes to Les Olles. There, you’ll find natural rock pools formed by erosion that are suitable for swimming; please respect the fragile ecosystem.

Festivals throughout the year

Local traditions also give your stay a seasonal dimension. Bot’s Festa Major de Sant Blai, in honour of the town’s patron saint, takes place in early February. In mid-March, there is a pilgrimage and communal meal at the Ermita de Sant Josep, associated with the feast of Saint Joseph on 19 March. Bot’s local events also include the Subhasta de Sant Antoni, which has been held for a hundred years.

Wine and olive oil from Bot

Bot produces extra virgin olive oil with the Terra Alta protected designation of origin. The olives used are predominantly of the Empeltre variety. Wine and olive oil are therefore among the locally rooted themes you can consider when planning your stay.

At Celler Menescal, the “Via Verda i visita celler” activity includes a guided visit to the winery, a small museum of old equipment and a guided tasting of four wines. Another option is a guided 10 km electric-bike tour through the landscapes and vineyards of Bot. It ends with a guided tasting of four wines and the winery’s balsamic vinegar. As booking conditions may change, check them in advance.
