For a trip to L'arboç, dry-stone routes, architectural history and bobbin lace can offer different areas of focus. If you are looking for a hotel, it is worth weighing these interests when planning your stay.

Circular routes to dry-stone structures

The Ajuntament de l’Arboç has established five circular routes to dry-stone structures. They can be explored on foot or by bicycle. The Ruta de Pedra Seca 3 is about 6.1 kilometres long and passes 15 dry-stone huts. The Ruta de Pedra Seca 4 is about 6.9 kilometres long and runs through vineyards, orchards and cultivated fields.

Based on their approximate lengths, Ruta 3 is the shorter of the two routes; its 15 huts provide a specific connection to dry-stone structures. Ruta 4 differs in that it runs through vineyards, orchards and cultivated fields. This means route length and the landscapes mentioned can be considered as different points of comparison. Trail conditions may change; check their current status before setting out.

Architectural history

Construction of the present-day Església de Sant Julià began around 1630 and was completed around 1650. The architectural complex was recognised as a “Bé Cultural d’Interès Nacional” in the “Historic Monument” category on 8 November 2007. The approximate construction dates and the exact date of recognition thus mark different stages in the history of the complex.

La Giralda is a neo-Arab palace with Modernist elements. It houses a 52-metre-high reproduction of Seville’s Giralda. When exploring the building, both its architectural style and this reproduction are central features.

The Hospital de Sant Antoni is a Modernist building constructed between 1905 and 1911 to replace a medieval hospital. Around the cloister, it features a distinctive Modernist chapel. The hospital’s interior cannot be visited.

Palau Gener i Batet was commissioned in 1873 as a residence for Josep Gener i Batet. Its interior cannot be visited either. These restrictions are relevant to your planning if you are considering including the buildings in your travel plans.

Bobbin lace and cultural events

The Escola de Puntaires de l’Arboç was founded in 1941 and is considered Catalonia’s oldest bobbin lace school. It offers four courses each year, including courses for adults and children. If you would like to plan a visit to a course, check the current programme in advance.

The Festa Major de l’Arboç takes place on the fourth Sunday in August. It was recognised as a “Festa Patrimonial d’Interès Nacional” in 2009 and comprises five elements classified as “Elements Patrimonials d’Interès Nacional”: El Ball de Bastons, els Gegants, l’Exhibició Castellera, el Ball de Diables and La Carretillada.

The Fira de Santa Llúcia also has a clear connection to bobbin lace. It takes place on the Sunday closest to 13 December and is registered as Catalonia’s only themed fair devoted to bobbin lace. At L’Enramada, you can sample and learn about coca enramada, which is considered a typical local product.
