Casa Vermouth Padró: Cellars, Production and Tasting
Casa Vermouth Padró is located in a manor house dating from 1776. During the guided tour of the historic cellar, the artisanal vermouth-making process is presented step by step. The tour ends with a guided tasting of Padró & Co. and Myrrha vermouths. The experience thus combines the historic setting with insights into the production process and a tasting. If this particular combination interests you, it is a concrete reason to consider Bràfim for your trip. Tours are currently offered to visitors; booking conditions may change. Check the conditions before making plans if you intend to include the tour as a fixed part of your itinerary.
Sant Jaume and Bràfim’s Architectural History
The parish church of Sant Jaume was built in the 17th century. Its Baroque organ dates from 1730, is unique in the comarca and needs comprehensive restoration. The main altarpiece dates from the 18th century; its creator is unknown. Between 1794 and 1797, the craftsman Joan Guasch from Valls gilded the altarpiece. This allows the different aspects of the furnishings to be distinguished: the precisely dated instrument and the history of an altarpiece whose gilding is associated with a specific period and craftsman.
Casa de la Vila offers a different architectural perspective. This institutional building in the Noucentisme style was designed by Cèsar Martinell Brunet and dates from 1911 to 1929. Together with Sant Jaume, it represents a different type of building from the parish church and complements the sacred art with an institutional perspective on Bràfim’s architecture.
The Loreto Sanctuary and Local Routes
The Santuari de la Mare de Déu del Loreto stands on Puig-rodó and can be reached on foot from Bràfim. It was built between 1889 and 1892 in the Neo-Romanesque style. The landscaped garden contains a fountain designed by Josep M. Jujol. The Aplec de Primavera at the sanctuary takes place on the first Sunday in June and is considered the oldest gathering of its kind in the southern comarques of Catalonia. If you would like to plan your trip around this date, check the announcement for the year you intend to travel. The Aplec thus offers a date-specific reason to visit, while the construction period and fountain shape the sanctuary’s architectural history.
The Camí de Sant Jaume offers another point of reference: the Bràfim–Vila-rodona stage passes along Avinguda de Catalunya, the old road through the town, on its way to Bràfim. This provides a specific connection to the Way of St James and complements the sacred and architectural themes with a named route. When planning, you can take account of the town’s different highlights without combining them into a single outing.
