Almoster: Festival Culture, Hiking Trails and a Church
Accommodation in Almoster
Two distinct themes stand out when planning a trip to Almoster: the festival calendar with its recurring traditions, and several named hiking trails. The Església parroquial de Sant Miquel is another historic landmark. You can plan your stay around a festival date, a nature route, or the church. Which aspect matters most to you depends on the purpose of your trip.
Festivals and Cultural Traditions
The Festa de l’Oli has been held every year on the first Sunday in December since 1980. Another recurring annual event is the Festa Major in honour of Sant Abdó and Sant Senén on 30 July. Its nine-day programme includes dances, a Correfoc, giants, theatre, children’s activities, a water festival, and the Baixada d’Artefactes. The specific programme may vary from year to year. If you are travelling for a particular event, check the dates for the year in question.
The Seguici festiu d’Almoster takes place twice a year: during the Festa Major of Sant Abdó and Sant Senén, and during the Festa Major de Sant Miquel. The procession includes the Ball de Diables with its Correfoc, the Sokarrat, the Ball de Gitanes, the Nans Abdó and Era, the Canaleta, and the giants Miquel and Àgata. The Canaleta is a large cow figure inspired by Catalan working oxen and cows. The Ball de Gitanes was added more recently; it aims to enrich local heritage and revive a representative traditional Catalan dance. At Almoster’s Festa Major in 2026, the Baixada d’Artefactes reached its 35th edition. Art’s Almoster is an open-air Catalan performing arts fair.
Hiking Trails and Choosing a Route
The local routes offer different points of interest, including scenery, starting points, destinations, and difficulty levels. The Ruta del Barranc del Picarany passes through Mediterranean woodland; check trail conditions before setting out. The Ruta del Mas del Víctor starts at Camí de la Creueta and is suitable for all audiences; by comparison, the Ruta de l’Aigua-sana is longer and more difficult. A hiking route to Puig d’en Cama starts in Almoster, follows an old livestock trail, and reaches the 12th-century Ermita de Sant Pere del Puig. Check both access and trail conditions before setting out.
Sant Miquel Church
The Església parroquial de Sant Miquel is classified as a BCIL and dates from the 18th century. The current building was completed and blessed in 1704. These details complement each other in dating the church: the 18th century provides the broader timeframe, while 1704 marks the completion and blessing of the current building.
Getting There by Car
You can reach Almoster by car from La Selva del Camp via the T-3231; another access road runs from Reus via the TP-7049. Check road conditions before travelling, as they can change. This lets you plan the best approach based on your starting point, without assuming a travel time or distance.
