For a stay in Esterri d’Àneu, the combination of a historic town center, cultural institutions and a variety of trails offers several specific points of interest. The old quarter has well-preserved houses, and the Noguera Pallaresa runs through it. A Romanesque bridge spans the river. On the right bank, you can walk along the Passeig del Riu. As a regional point of reference, 170 hectares in the peripheral protection zone of Aigüestortes National Park are designated for Esterri d’Àneu.

Historic Town Center, Churches and Wood Art

The parish church of Sant Vicenç is one of the town’s sights. It dates from the 16th and 17th centuries, has a Baroque design and features a distinctive bell tower. Opposite the church stands the wooden sculpture Homenatge a l’excursionista etern. The Plaça de la Closa is home to the Circuit d’escultura viva, featuring wooden sculptures. The Romanesque chapel of Sant Pere vell de Casa Carrera is next to the cemetery.

The Ecomuseu and the Route Through the Town

The Ecomuseu de les Valls d’Àneu is based at Casa Gassia. It offers an active, participatory introduction to life in Pallars at the beginning of the 20th century and provides a better understanding of the natural and cultural character of the Àneu area. Its perspective on everyday life in the past thus complements the town’s architectural heritage with a regional context. The Itinerari urbà per Esterri is a historic route between Carrer Major and Casa Gassia. Information panels enhance the town walk, and the Ecomuseu also offers guided visits to other parts of the quarter.

Trails and Tours

The D’Isil a Esterri d’Àneu route is 18.3 kilometers long, has an elevation gain of 685 meters and takes seven and a half hours. It is a round trip and is rated very difficult.
