Cellers combines church art with guided cave experiences and several named trails. For planning, it is worth considering these separately: Sant Joan Baptista represents local history and frescoes, while various cave and trail options are described around the Terradets Reservoir. This can help you decide, even while searching for a hotel, whether you want your stay to focus more on culture, a guided half-day experience or a particular trail.

Sant Joan Baptista and its frescoes

Sant Joan Baptista de Cellers is the parish church of the town. It was completely rebuilt in the 18th century and subsequently rededicated as Sant Joan Baptista. The frescoes inside were created by Josep Minguell and use religious symbolism drawn from the popular culture of the Pyrenees. The church thus brings together its history and an artistic visual language with regional ties. If you are interested in church art, you can take in both the rededication and the frescoes during your visit.

The access arrangements described on 13 March 2025 state that you should request an access code at the entrance door using a QR code. Check these arrangements again before your visit.

Guided experiences at Cova dels Muricecs

Cova dels Muricecs is an archaeological site and also home to a significant bat colony. From 15 October to 15 May, visits are possible only as part of a guided tour. This period may be adjusted to protect the bats. If you are planning a visit, check the current visiting dates.

Cova-Caiac is a family-friendly half-day experience that combines kayaking and a walking section around the Cellers Reservoir and Cova dels Muricecs. The tour starts at the Hotel Terradets pier and covers 2.5 kilometres by kayak to the cave. Both the kayaking and cave sections are fully guided. The water route, walking section and guided tour make this a different way to get to know the area from a visit focused on the cave’s seasonal access arrangements. As guide and meeting-point arrangements may change, check the provider’s current information in advance.

Trails and scenery at Terradets

The 3.3 km circular Rodeando Terradets trail passes the town of Cellers and Cellers-Llimiana railway station. Part of the trail is accessible to people with reduced mobility. There is also interpretive signage about the cultural and natural heritage. The length, partial accessibility and signage are specific features to consider when choosing this trail.

The Ruta dels Llacs offers a different route option. Its Terradets section is 5.0 km long, flat, and runs between the C-13 road and the Terradets Reservoir through the Microrreserva de Terradets. The Ruta dels Llacs can be started at Cellers railway station. Compared with the 3.3 km Rodeando Terradets circular trail, these routes have different formats and two different lengths; the description “flat” applies to the Terradets section of the Ruta dels Llacs.

Another trail, the Camino del Barranc del Bosc y Roca Regina, starts and ends at Hotel Terradets. The hotel is right next to the Terradets Reservoir, also called the Cellers Reservoir. This makes the hotel a named reference point for the trail, without implying any further details about a stay there.

A wetland has formed at the end of the Terradets Reservoir from the large amounts of sediment eroded from the ravines of the Conca de Tremp. Reed beds and riparian forests have spread along the banks, attracting a diverse fauna. This wetland adds a distinct natural feature to the area, alongside the trails and caves described above.
