Sant Feliu Sasserra between witchcraft history and landscapes

Witch trials and local history
In Sant Feliu Sasserra, the history of the witch trials is an important part of the cultural offering. The Centre InterpretaciĂł de la Bruixeria explores popular beliefs and practices surrounding witchcraft, protective practices against this phenomenon, and related customs of the time in its first section. A multimedia presentation based on real events addresses the persecution, torture and deaths of women accused of witchcraft. Between 1618 and 1648, 23 women were put on trial in Sant Feliu Sasserra; at least six of them were executed. The beliefs and customs of the time are thus presented alongside the violent consequences of the persecution.
The Fira de les Bruixes has been held on All Saints’ Day since 2000. It fills the streets and squares of Sant Feliu Sasserra with stalls selling handcrafted and esoteric products. The festival programme included theatrical performances depicting witches’ gatherings, witch trials, and the sentencing and execution of a witch. If you would like to plan your trip around this event, check the dates before making your plans.
Historic buildings
The Casa del Consell i Jurats del Lluçanès was built in 1611 to house the seat of the Cúria of the Sotsvegueria del Lluçanès. Its main façade features a Renaissance-style composition. The Romanesque portal of the parish church of Sant Feliu offers a different architectural accent: it is on the south façade and has a round-arched opening with two receding archivolts, or stepped arch frames. The portal design, added to the church in the 12th century, has been preserved. The Renaissance composition of the Casa del Consell can thus be contrasted with the Romanesque style of the church portal.
Circular routes through history and landscape
The historical and cultural circular route presents the tangible and intangible heritage of Sant Feliu Sasserra. QR codes can be scanned with a mobile device; a video report also complements the route and introduces the town’s history. The CÒDEX XVII adventure combines a visit to the Centre Interpretació de la Bruixeria with a game and lasts 2.5 hours. Make arrangements before you arrive.
The circular routes also differ in the landscapes and features they describe. The Itinerari del Serrat de les Forques is 2,400 metres long and starts and ends at the Centre InterpretaciĂł de la Bruixeria. The Itinerari del Serrat Llobater follows a narrow forest path, with an optional detour to Serrat Llobater at 695 metres, the highest point in the municipality. From there, you can enjoy sweeping views of Montserrat, Montseny and the Pyrenees. By contrast, the Itinerari Balma de les Pastorelles passes through forests, cultivated fields and pastureland.
Further viewpoints add to the landscape experience: the area around Serrat de les Forques and Puig Sobirà includes two elevated spots with panoramic views of Sant Feliu Sasserra and its surroundings. The Glorieta Vilaclara stands on Serrat de les Forques and offers views of Sant Feliu Sasserra, Oristà and Prats de Lluçanès.
