Pallejá: Heritage, Nature and Local Festivals

Pallejà offers several distinct themes to choose from for your trip: rural architectural history, archaeological and agricultural collections, nature by the water, climbing and local festivals. Historic Buildings and Collections

The Masia Museu (Ca l'Albareda) is a former prominent farmhouse in Pallejà, built in 1615 by the Albareda de Dalt family. Its collection includes archaeological finds dating from the Neolithic to Roman rule in the region. It also displays agricultural objects, including a grape press, the scales from Pallejà's former agricultural cooperative and two medium-capacity barrels. The collection thus brings together finds from a long period of regional history and tangible objects from agriculture.

The Castell de Pallejà tells another story of architecture: Ramon Martí de Torrelles and Fiveller de Palau built it in 1590 over a medieval castle. The distinction is important for comparing the dates: 1590 refers to the construction of the Castell over the older castle, while 1615 is the year the former farmhouse, the Masia Museu, was built. The two dates therefore refer to different buildings and histories.

Heritage and Notable Finds

The tourist route “Els Enigmes de Pallejà” presents the architectural and historical heritage through QR codes and riddles. Its riddles and digital information offer a different focus from the exhibits in the Masia Museu: here, the emphasis is on interpreting heritage through clues and tasks. This gives you two different ways to explore an interest in history and architecture.

The Pedreres de Pallejà also offer a subject of their own: among the fossils found there are numerous specimens of the snail species Strombus coronatus. This specifically named find adds a natural-history aspect to the archaeological finds at the Masia Museu.

River, Plants and Activity

At the Parc Fluvial del Llobregat, you can walk along the riverbank, play sports and observe numerous bird species. The activities mentioned there therefore include both physical activity and nature watching. The Riera de les Rovires is the only stream in the municipality of Pallejà that carries water almost all year round and is not channelized along any of its length. A botanical feature of Les Planes is the presence of the margalló palm (Chamaerops humilis). It is the only palm native to Europe and thrives in dry coastal regions of the western Mediterranean.
