Rajadell: Hiking, River Trails and Heritage
Accommodation in Rajadell
Rajadell combines signposted hiking trails with a medieval old town, a fortified castle and archaeological sites. When planning your trip, it is worth distinguishing trails by length and route, and scheduling visits that require advance arrangements separately. This gives you different ways to get to know the landscape and heritage of the town.
Trails between the station, old town and river
Creuem la Riera is a 1 km walking trail between the station area and the old town of Rajadell. Interpretive information along the route covers the landscape, fauna and flora. At one kilometre, the trail is considerably shorter than the Via Verda; its route is also different, as it connects two specific points in Rajadell.
The Via Verda along the Riera de Rajadell is 9.2 km long and classed as an easy route. It connects Rajadell with Manresa’s Green Ring and passes through riverside woodland. Compared with Creuem la Riera, this is a longer trail with a different route: rather than linking the station area and the old town, the Via Verda follows the river and connects to the Green Ring.
Rajadell has several signposted hiking routes. The surrounding area includes streams, ridges and plains, mostly characterised by grain fields. The PR-75 hiking trail also passes agricultural heritage, including vineyard huts, water tanks, brick kilns and chapels. This lets you combine a hike with views of a range of historic structures and features.
The route to the Roman villa of Sant Amanç is a circular trail. It passes through the shaded side of Can Viladés and by the villa; some sections follow an ancient Roman road and the old royal road. Near Monistrolet, a local route passes the Can Gallifa windmill building. The structure dates from 1910 and features elements of Modernism.
Old town, castle and archaeological remains
The old town of Rajadell has medieval origins, and its lanes and squares are well preserved. Rajadell Castle is a fortified residence, predominantly Gothic in character and dating from the 17th century. It is one of the largest and best-preserved castles in the comarca. The old town and castle therefore offer different points of interest if you are interested in the town’s architectural history.
The Sant Amanç de Viladés archaeological complex includes a Roman villa, an early medieval settlement and Iberian remains. The archaeological site comprises two excavated, consolidated and museum-style areas. Check the site’s access arrangements before visiting.
Information updated on December 12, 2025, from the Rajadell Tourist Office mentions tours of the Roman villa of Sant Amanç. If you are planning such a visit, check current visiting arrangements in advance. This allows you to plan the route to the villa and a possible tour appointment separately.
Olive mill and visit planning
The MolĂ de l'Oli is a traditional stone mill that is still in operation. It produces extra virgin olive oil, including cold-extracted varieties. Group tours explain the different stages of olive oil production; visits must be arranged in advance. Also check the operating details before planning a visit.
Rajadell can be reached by train or bus and is connected by the C-25 Eix Transversal expressway. If travelling by train or bus, check the latest timetables before your trip. When making your choice, you can also consider whether trails, historic sites or a group visit that needs to be arranged in advance will be the focus of your stay.
