Discover Tavertet
Accommodation in Tavertet
Tavertet combines striking rocky landscapes, viewpoints and paths with a historic town centre. When planning your stay, you can consider whether you want your days to focus mainly on hikes and views, or also on architecture and prehistory. The sights offer different points of interest, from the ridges above the Sau Reservoir to houses dating back several centuries and a dolmen beside a chapel.
Rocky landscapes and views
The Cingles de Tavertet rise 400 metres above the Sau Reservoir; their sheer cliffs are 200 metres high. The two measurements describe different aspects of the landscape: the elevation above the reservoir and the height of the cliffs. At the Salts de l’Avenc, the waterfalls are formed by the Avellanosa and Abeurador streams at the foot of the Mas l’Avenc farmhouse. They plunge 200 metres into the Sau Valley. Their flow varies depending on the season, so the time of year matters when visiting this natural attraction.
The Mirador pla del Castell offers views of the Sau Reservoir, the Guilleries and Montseny. The viewpoint is a 30-minute walk from Tavertet. If you plan to take this route, check the trail conditions before setting out, as they can change. The rocks of l’Avenc de Tavertet offer further views over the Sau Valley and the Osona Plain, while also preserving the landscapes of the high plateaus.
The course of the Ter in the Tavertet area also shapes the landscape: it forms high cliffs and flows into the beginning of the Sau Reservoir. Together with the Cingles and the rocks of l’Avenc, it reveals a landscape where the cliffs, high plateaus and reservoir each serve as distinct landmarks.
Hiking and getting around
From Tavertet, you can go hiking or take mountain biking trips. Routes lead to the Sau Reservoir and other natural landscapes. One route runs from Tavertet along the cliff edge to the Mirador pla del Castell. Puig de la Força can be reached from Tavertet via a signposted hiking trail; trail conditions here can also change. The Salt de Tirabous can be seen from Puig de la Força or Pla del Castell. These two viewpoints therefore offer different vantage points from which to see the waterfall.
Town centre and cultural heritage
The entire village of Tavertet is designated a Bé d’Interès Cultural. The town centre retains 40 houses built between the 17th and 18th centuries. The Dolmen de Sant Corneli is right beside the Sant Corneli Chapel. It consists of a square chamber with a stone slab serving as an entrance, as well as a corridor resembling the chamber. The houses dating back several centuries, the designation covering the entire village and the chapel with its adjacent dolmen offer different points of focus for a cultural and historical walk.
The opening hours given for Sant Cristòfol Church are 9:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. Check these times before your visit.
Plan your stay in Tavertet
If you’re looking for a hotel for your stay in Tavertet, base your choice on what you have planned for each day: the Mirador pla del Castell, a 30-minute walk away, offers a specific time reference, while the town centre and dolmen are of particular interest to those interested in cultural history. The routes and changing trail conditions are relevant for paths and viewpoints; the 40 houses and the dolmen offer tangible points of interest for the village’s history. This way, you can shape your stay around your interests without treating natural and cultural heritage as the same kind of outing.
