The foothills of the coastal range, before it gives way to the sea, shape the terrain of Arenys de Munt; flat areas are rare. Between trails, historic buildings and local traditions, the town offers a variety of things to explore.

Landscape and Trails

Fondo de Can Rossell is a path cut about three metres into the ground. From Panagall, it climbs to Collsacreu in around 15 minutes. Arenys de Munt’s natural surroundings can be explored on foot and by bicycle. The historical publication “Passejades a peu per Arenys de Munt” features 36 walking routes through the area and is provided by the municipality as visitor information.

Another circular route is the Ruta de las Masías. Along it, visitors can discover five farmhouses of great historical, architectural and cultural interest. The route’s varied landscapes and agricultural areas also include the cherry trees of En Roca. This offers different ways to explore the landscape: a single path section of around 15 minutes or a circular route passing several farmhouses.

La Marxa Popular Termes d'Arenys de Munt takes place on the first Sunday in October and is divided into three events. Check the current edition before making plans.

Buildings and Cultural Sites

The Church of Sant Martí d’Arenys was built in the 16th century. Its late Gothic style is complemented by valuable Renaissance features. The Castell de Can Jalpí has a different history: the castle and its gardens were created between the late 19th and early 20th centuries, after a nobleman transformed the old manor house into a medieval castle.

At the end of the 19th century, Doña Sofía de Algorta y de Albaroa, wife of Don August Borràs-Jalpí de Mercader, planted a sapling of the Arbre de Gernika in the gardens of Can Jalpí. The Santuari de Lourdes near the hamlet of Sobirans was built in 1924 as a replica of the Massabielle Grotto in Lourdes, France. The surrounding area has a recreation area and facilities for outdoor meals.

The permanent exhibition of the Jordi-Puigduví Collection in the Can Jalpí space provides an insight into representative birds of the Montnegre-i-el-Corredor mountain range and the Riera d’Arenys plain. The collection includes 150 nests and 1,500 eggs from different species. La Central in Can Jalpí offers information about the park, signposted self-guided trails, talks and exhibitions.

Routes and Trip Planning

The self-guided route “Descobreix Arenys de Munt amb Don Augusto” is designed as a family experience combining heritage, history and play. It starts at La Central in Can Jalpí and ends at Masia de Can Borrell; it takes around 90 minutes. The start point, destination and approximate duration are provided, without presenting the route as a guided tour.

Festivals and Traditions

The tradition of bobbin lace in Arenys de Munt has been documented since at least 1698. The Trobada de Puntaires takes place every year on the afternoon of 24 June in Plaça de l’Església; check the current programme for the year in question. The Christmas tradition of the Pessebre Monumental is also part of the town. It is currently located inside Masia de Can Borrell.

Nit de Naps i Cols is Arenys de Munt’s tradition on the night of Epiphany. El Remei, meanwhile, is the town’s spring festival. Along with bobbin lace and the historic buildings, these festivals give the trip a cultural focus alongside the trails and landscape.
