Ripollet: Mill Heritage, River Paths and Parks
Accommodation in Ripollet
To decide whether Ripollet is right for your trip, river paths, mill history and cultural events offer concrete points to consider. If you’re looking for hotels in Ripollet, you can think about whether nature, local history or a particular programme should shape your stay.
River Landscape and Paths
The Ripoll and Sec rivers form Ripollet’s largest and most significant ecological system. They also serve as an important ecological link. The river ecosystem covers approximately eight percent of the municipality’s area—a measure that puts the importance of this landscape within the town into perspective.
Anella Verda is a 6.94-kilometre circular route that starts and ends at the Poliesportiu Municipal. One section runs alongside the Ripoll River; the route also connects with Parc dels Pinetons. The complete signposting provides information on distance and elevation gain, indicates connections to other circular routes and marks heritage sites. This allows you to factor the route distance and information about its points of interest into your plans, without inferring a particular walking time or level of difficulty from its length.
Parks and Nature
Parc dels Pinetons includes a more natural area that reflects the surrounding landscape. A prehistoric settlement dating from the Late Bronze Age and Early Iron Age was discovered beneath the park. It is dated to around 800 to 1,100 BC and comprised approximately 90 huts. The park thus combines a connection to the landscape with an archaeological theme reaching far back in time.
Jugatecambiental in Parc dels Pinetons offers activities involving scooters, roller skates or bicycles that explore sustainable mobility. Casa Natura is located between Parc dels Pinetons and the road to Santiga, next to Torrent Tortuguer; activities there take place mainly outdoors. The Aleppo pine (Pinus halepensis), with 18 specimens, is the predominant tree species in Parc d’Anselm Clavé.
Mill Heritage and Cultural Sites
The former Molí d’en Rata hydraulic grain mill was restored in 2005 and used the Ripoll River as its energy source. CIP Molí d’en Rata presents Ripollet’s heritage through exhibitions, walks, guided tours and other activities. Every year, it also takes part in the European Heritage Days. The mill and the river are part of a shared historical story: water was not only part of the landscape but also supplied energy to the grain mill.
Parc de la Xemeneia also recalls the history of milling: it stands on the former site of the facilities of the Can Buxó mill. A brick chimney is still visible in the park; it gives the park its name. A mural in Ripollet is dedicated to Josep Anselm Clavé and commemorates his cultural and choral legacy. Clavé was a Catalan politician, composer and writer; he founded the Catalan choral movement and promoted the association movement.
Espai Maria Aurèlia Capmany is a cultural space and open-air reading area in the town hall courtyard, next to Ripollet’s municipal library. It adds a cultural landmark in the town hall area to the sites connected with history and landscape.
Plan for Festivals and Events
Ripollet’s Corpus Christi festival is recognised as an event of tourist interest. During the Corpus festival, floral decorations adorn the streets of the old town; they are created by residents, schools and local associations. Check the dates for the relevant year if you’d like to plan your trip around the festival.
In 2026, Ripollet celebrated the 131st edition of the Festa de Sant Antoni Abat. It is one of the municipality’s oldest celebrations and is recognised as an event of local tourist interest. For a different kind of event, Teatre Auditori del Mercat Vell regularly offers a programme for children featuring theatre, music and dance on the first Sunday afternoon of each month from October to May. This distinction is useful for planning your schedule: festivals and performances depend on their respective dates, while Anella Verda offers a specific route with a marked distance.
