For a trip to La Sabinita, hiking and cultural events can be considered as two distinct focuses. For the trails, distance, difficulty level and walking time provide guidance; pilgrimages and festivals follow specific programmes and dates. This allows you to align your travel dates with your preferred focus.

Hiking: Different Trail Profiles

The PR-TF 86.3 La Sabinita - Tamadaya hiking trail passes through the district of La Sabinita and runs within the protected Parque Natural de la Corona Forestal. The linear route is 3.1 kilometres long, is rated as low difficulty and takes about one hour and 30 minutes to walk. This gives you a good sense of how much time it requires. Check the current trail status and route conditions before setting out.

The linear PR-TF 86.2 Arico Nuevo - Área Recreativa El Contador trail offers a considerably longer route: it is rated as high difficulty, covers 10.7 kilometres and takes about five hours. It heads towards the Calzadas de la Sabinita. By comparison, the PR-TF 86.3 is shorter and rated at a lower difficulty level, while the PR-TF 86.2 takes significantly longer and is considered highly challenging. These differences can help you choose a hike based on the time available and its rated difficulty.

Ravine Scenery and Trail Running

Barranco de las Hiedras is a ravine in the summit area within Parque Natural de la Corona Forestal. The landscape there is characterised by Canary Island pines. The descent through the ravine begins with a rappel of about 40 metres; further rappels follow, bringing the total height descended to around 300 metres. The figure of around 300 metres describes the total elevation change of the descent, not the length of a single rappel. Check the latest information on equipment, conditions and technical suitability for this excursion.

Access to the descent is via the TF-28, then uphill along Calle Polegre in the direction of La Sabinita. Road, weather or land-management conditions may affect access. Therefore, check the access information before setting out.

The recurring La Sabinita Trail Aromas de mi Pueblo offers a different kind of running. The 22nd edition was announced for 27 September 2025 in La Sabinita, Arico. For this announced edition, participation options for all age groups were planned, along with 5- and 10-kilometre routes for adults. This information refers to the 2025 format; dates and details may differ for future editions. If you are planning your trip around the trail race, check the dates and format of the relevant edition.

Festivals and Religious Traditions

The Baile de Taifa in La Sabinita brings residents and visitors together with traditional music and typical clothing. The festivities in honour of Nuestro Señor de La Cruz also included a Baile de Magos. The programme for each festival may change, so a specific visit depends on the dates of the relevant edition.

On the way to La Sabinita, the pilgrimage of the Virgen de Abona was accompanied by folk dances and folk music performed by the Asociación Cultural Las Hiedras de La Sabinita. Music and dance are therefore among the described features of this pilgrimage.

La Sabinita’s Capilla de Nuestro Señor de La Cruz is also associated with a religious celebration: the chapel was festively decorated for the occasion. A holy mass and a communal meal took place there during the celebration. These examples show different aspects of local cultural life, from community dancing to a religious celebration.
