Garachico combines a protected historic ensemble with cultural activities, coastal pools and protected landscapes. If you are looking for hotels in Garachico, first consider what you want to define your stay: architecture and sacred art, a cultural program, or nature and coastal attractions. This will let you start planning your trip around the focus that interests you most.

Historic Center and Sacred Art

The Villa and Port of Garachico are protected as an Asset of Cultural Interest (Bien de Interés Cultural) in the category of a historic ensemble. The historic center preserves old buildings, monasteries and mansions from its illustrious past. The ensemble designation gives the town an architectural focus, while individual buildings have their own historical associations.

The Iglesia de Santa Ana is protected as an Asset of Cultural Interest in the category of a monument. Behind the church is the Museo de Arte Sacro, with a collection that includes works from the 17th century. The Castillo-Fortaleza de San Miguel fortress castle dates back to 1575.

Cultural Program and Traditional Events

ÁREA GARACHICO has established its own program of cultural activities. These include cinema, dance, classical theater, visual arts and music. The specific activities vary; if you are interested in a particular format, check the current program for your travel dates.

The theatrical route passes through the historic and artistic center of the Villa and Port of Garachico. Along the way, nine actors perform historical episodes. If you would like to include this route in your plans, check its current availability in advance.

The Feria de Artesanía takes place every summer in July; the exact dates may vary. The fair showcases and sells traditional craft products from the Canary Islands. Visitors can also sample Canarian dishes, regional wines and traditional baked goods; the individual offerings may vary. The Fiesta de las Tradiciones y Romería de San Roque dates back to the beginning of the 17th century.

Volcanic Landscape, Coast and Nature

Young lava flows shape the landscape in the Reserva Natural Especial del Chinyero. Plant colonization and vegetation succession are still in their early stages. The Paisaje Protegido de Los Acantilados de La Culata offers a different geological perspective: it is a fossil sea cliff with geological, geomorphological and scenic value.

The Roque de Garachico is home to threatened and migratory seabirds, including the little shearwater, Bulwer’s petrel and Madeiran storm petrel. To protect the colonies, the Roque is closed to visitors. Check the latest visitor information before including it in your plans.

Those considering a hiking trail can take the PR-TF 43 Garachico–Montaña Chinyero. It runs from Garachico along the Camino de El Lance, through volcanic lava flows, to San Juan del Reparo. Trail conditions may change, so check them before your hike.

For a coastal experience, visit the Piscinas Naturales El Caletón. They comprise several natural swimming pools, including Las Viejas, Los Niños and Los Chorros, as well as a seaside promenade. Swimming conditions may vary. These landscape and coastal attractions offer a clear contrast with the historic architecture and cultural activities, which are also part of planning a trip to Garachico.
