Guía De Isora offers several reasons to visit: a historic centre, archaeological traces along hiking trails, volcanic landscapes and cultural events throughout the year.

Planning your trip

The tourist information office is opposite the Centro Cultural at Avenida Isora, s/n, 38680. It was temporarily closed on August 27, 2026. Check its current status before planning a visit.

Historic centre and art

The historic centre of Guía de Isora was designated a Bien de Interés Cultural in 2009. A stroll takes you along irregularly laid-out lanes and past traditional water sources and washing places. The townscape combines rural residential architecture from the 18th century with civil and religious buildings from the 19th century. In the centre, you’ll encounter a range of construction periods and building types rather than a single, uniform historic style.

The Iglesia Nuestra Señora de la Luz was the first religious building erected in Guía de Isora, in the 16th century. Inside are altarpieces, sculptures, paintings and numerous examples of goldsmithing; the furnishings also include an embroidered mantle from the 18th century. You can also see the images of Nuestra Señora de la Luz and Cristo de la Dulce Muerte.

Art lovers will also find the Manuel Martín González exhibition in the historic centre, in the cultural administration building. It comprises two rooms: the first displays advertising art created during the artist’s stay in Cuba from 1923 to 1932, and the second features a selection of his landscape paintings. Check visitor information before planning a specific visit.

Hiking trails and landscapes

Some hiking trails follow original routes used by the Indigenous population towards the summit region. Along these paths, you can see burial caves, domestic areas, cup-marked stations and rock engravings. The network of trails in Guía de Isora also includes various routes around Teide National Park. These paths combine landscape views with archaeological traces, although not every route includes the same sites.

The linear PR-TF 70 Guía de Isora–Tágara–Boca Tauce is 17.5 kilometres long and runs from Guía de Isora to Boca Tauce. The trail starts at the church in Guía de Isora; before reaching Chirche, it passes ovens, threshing floors and threshing areas. On August 27, 2026, the trail was closed, although 6.5 kilometres were listed as open. Check the current trail status before setting out.

For a different perspective on the surroundings, Mirador de Chirche offers panoramic views of the coast and mid-altitude areas. Montaña de Tejina, meanwhile, is a volcanic landscape flanked by the deep Guaria and Cuéscara ravines. The viewpoint and the volcanic terrain offer different landscape experiences within the municipality.

Festivals and traditions

Día de las Tradiciones in Chirche is held every year on the second weekend of July. Chirche is within the municipality of Guía de Isora. The festival recreates rural scenes from the mid-20th century, including fieldwork, washing clothes, making charcoal and traditional bread baking. Individual demonstrations may vary from year to year, so check that year’s programme.

Another tradition is La quema de Lucas, which began in 1794. Every year on San Juan, an effigy is burned; today the tradition also includes competitions, dances and fancy dress. Pascua Florida takes place during Holy Week in Guía de Isora and brings together artistic creativity and tradition. The Carrera de Montaña in Guía de Isora casco usually offers a long and a short course, as well as a hiking route.

Local sweets

Dulcería Isora in the historic centre began operating in 1905. It continues to make sweets using traditional methods and recipes. Local confectionery traditions include rosquetes, huesitos, tortas de almendras and truchas. If you’re planning a specific visit to the dulcería, check in advance whether visits are possible.
