When planning a stay in Acojeja, you can consider historical interests and activities separately. The Lagar de Acojeja tells the story of winemaking and communal use; traditional Canarian homes offer a distinct perspective on local architecture. Hiking trails, the wine route and climbing in Guaria each raise different questions about the route and access.

Winegrowing History at the Lagar de Acojeja

The Lagar de Acojeja is a building dating from the mid-19th century. It was used by farmers in the Isora midlands to make wine. Given the economic conditions of the time, it was built as shared infrastructure. The building therefore represents both winemaking and a communal economic system.

The route “Sendas del Vino: Las Fuentes–Acojeja,” described in September 2021, is a five-kilometre hiking trail of moderate difficulty. It introduces the history of winegrowing in the municipality, passes through El Choro and reaches Acojeja, where the Lagar is located. Check whether the route is currently available before planning your trip.

Homes and Traces of El Choro

Acojeja has well-preserved traditional Canarian homes. Together with the Lagar, they offer a way to explore different aspects: residential architecture on the one hand, and shared winemaking infrastructure on the other. The wood-fired oven in El Choro was used to bake bread and other foods. It is located beside the road that climbs from Acojeja towards the mountain; check its current condition in person.

Hiking and Navigation

An asphalt road from the area around Acojeja leads to the hiking trails of Montaña de Tejina, becoming an unpaved track along the way. Check the condition of the road section in person before including it in your travel plans. The area around Acojeja is home to distinctive plant species such as Balillo, Jócamo and Cerrajón on Montaña de Tejina. If you want to include this feature in your tour plans, check local conditions and access.

A linear hiking route from Guía de Isora to Acojeja, described in 2023, ends at a bus stop on the main road. If you plan to take this route, check current bus services and the conditions at the stop in advance.

Climbing in Guaria

In Guaria, a distinctive climbing ethic combines sport climbing, traditional climbing and routes for self-belaying. Some sport climbing routes are more than 35 metres high. The approach to the Guaria climbing sector follows the steep ascent from El Choro; from the area of the last houses, it takes 15 minutes to reach the foot of the cliff. Check the approach conditions before setting out.

For planning your time, these figures are not interchangeable: the five kilometres and moderate difficulty refer to the wine route described in September 2021; the 15 minutes refer to the approach to the foot of the cliff. They therefore relate to different activities and sections of the route.
