Muñique lies at the westernmost edge of the municipality of Teguise and has grown along the road between Soo and Tiagua. If you are planning a stay in Lanzarote, the village offers a glimpse of the municipality’s rural side. Its few buildings face towards Soo and the Risco de Famara. If you are interested in rural landscapes and agriculture, Muñique and Soo provide a concrete setting for exploring them.

Landscape and Agriculture

In the area around Muñique and Soo, you can see some dunes and cultivated fields in Jable or Rofe. Jable is sand moved by the wind, with properties similar to Rofe; in the Muñique area, Jable is used for agriculture. Here, the landscape and its cultivation form part of the same regional picture. Mount El Cuchillo is considered Lanzarote’s oldest crater and adds a geological point of interest to the landscape.

Traditional crops in the Muñique and Soo area include potatoes, sweet potatoes, onions, watermelons, melons and lentils. These crops range from tubers and onions to melons and lentils. In regional farming, a layer of Picón or Rofe about 10 cm thick also absorbs moisture from the air and morning dew in the fields. The area’s agricultural character can therefore be understood both through its crops and through the use of local materials.

Church and Local History

The small church stands in the centre of the village, beside the road. It was built on a plot donated by the couple Donato Ramón Guerra de León and Pilar Morales de León; construction was completed in 1975. This brings together a central location, the land donation and a specific year of completion. If you would like to learn about local history as well as the landscape, the church offers a clear point of reference.

Festivals in May 2026

In May 2026, Muñique celebrated traditional festivals in honour of San Isidro Labrador and Our Lady of Fátima. The programme included processions and Masses, as well as open-air dances, theatre, children’s games, concerts and sporting events, including the “Muñique Cross Trail” run. Communal meals were also part of the festival programme. The activities listed show the different aspects of this particular programme: religious celebrations, community events, culture and sport. If a festival is important to your travel dates, check the dates before planning.

Getting around by bus

The “Tienda de Muñique” bus stop is in the village. The Intercity Lanzarote service between Costa Teguise and Tiagua passes through Muñique; according to the timetable, it runs only on weekdays. Check the timetable and operating days before planning a bus journey. This way, you can take this transport information into account when planning your trip without assuming a specific travel time.
