Na Macaret: Coast, Culture and Watchtower
Accommodation in Na Macaret
Na Macaret is a coastal destination with a town beach beside the settlement of the same name. If you are looking for a hotel in Na Macaret, the beach, nature and local culture can offer different considerations when choosing a destination. Alongside the coast, a watchtower, traditional fishermen’s houses and a named walking route also feature.
Beach and diving
The town beach lies between Cala MolĂ and Punta des Nous Corns. It borders a small, sheltered sea inlet with a sandy shore and calm water. Thanks to its clear water and impressive seabed, the beach is well suited to diving. Local conditions can vary; take them into account before making specific diving plans.
Fishermen’s houses and harbour access
Some of the original fishermen’s houses still stand on the sandy beach. A quay provides a place to moor small boats. As mooring conditions can change, check them before making plans.
Coastal scenery nearby
Further afield lies Port d'Addaia, a natural harbour in a natural bay with calm, shallow water. The Addaia Islands protect the entrance. This distinguishes Port d'Addaia as a natural harbour from Na Macaret’s town beach: the focus in one case is a sheltered bay entrance, and in the other, the beach of the settlement of the same name.
The Addaia and Mongofre salt marshes are among Menorca’s larger wetland areas. They offer the opportunity to observe numerous waterbirds, especially in the winter months; sightings vary.
The location and focus also differ depending on your interest in nature: diving is associated with Na Macaret beach, while winter birdwatching is associated with the Addaia and Mongofre salt marshes. This allows you to weigh up a coastal water activity against a seasonal wildlife-watching opportunity in a wetland.
Watchtower and literature by the beach
On Punta de sa Torre, facing the coast at Na Macaret beach, stands the 8 m-high Torre d'Addaia watchtower, with an artillery platform at the top. The same tower is also known as Torre de Macaret and Torre de Cala MolĂ. The artillery platform refers to the area at the top intended for guns.
Literature is also associated with the beach: there you can read Ponç Pons’s poem “Na Macaret” and the beginning of the seventh canto of “Nura”.
Walking the CamĂ de Cavalls
The Na Macaret walking route can be reached on the Favà ritx–Arenal d'en Castell section of the Camà de Cavalls. If you are including walking in your trip plans, this stage reference gives you a specific route connection. Trail conditions can change; check them before planning your hike.
