Architecture and lanes in Binibèquer Vell

Binibèquer Vell was established in 1972 as a tourist complex designed to recreate a Mediterranean fishing village. Its architecture is inspired by buildings and lanes on the Greek Mediterranean islands. The houses have irregular walls adapted to the area’s natural features and terrain. The fishing village theme and Greek-inspired design therefore belong to a deliberately planned development. You can stroll through a maze of white lanes. As you do, notice how the shapes of the houses and the paths work together: both shape the appearance of Binibèquer Vell.

Binibèquer Vell also has a small open-air chapel with a bell tower. Masses are held there on special occasions.

A stroll or a coastal trail

For a different focus, you can explore the Binissafúller–Punta Prima section of the Camí de Cavalls. It is 8.06 kilometres long, flat and not very challenging, and follows a coastal trail. On this section, the Camí de Cavalls runs alongside Caló Fondo, also known as ses Olles. This low-lying, semicircular rocky area is particularly suitable for diving. If you plan to hike the route, check the current trail conditions, as they can change.

The two activities offer different experiences: a stroll through the lanes focuses on the built form of the neighbourhood, while the trail section follows a coastal route. You can therefore plan your day around either architecture or a coastal walk.

Coastal spots and water activities

Cala Binibeca Vell is a small rocky cove between Cala Binissafúller and Caló Fondo, next to the Binibeca Vell residential area. Low, rugged cliffs with little vegetation define the coastline. The water is deep; the seabed is rocky and sandy, with Posidonia. The cove is suitable for snorkelling, although local sea conditions can vary.

Playa Binibeca Nou has a different kind of beach: it is 400 metres long and has fine white sand. The water is shallow and crystal clear. The beach is also suitable for snorkelling, over a sandy seabed with Posidonia beds.

The different characteristics of the two snorkelling spots can help you choose: Cala Binibeca Vell is a rocky cove with deep water, while Playa Binibeca Nou is a sandy beach with shallow water. Posidonia is present at both locations, but the cove also has rocky areas on the seabed.

Getting there and practical planning

Parking is available in the Binibeca Vell residential area. Small footpaths lead to Cala Binibeca Vell beach. As access conditions can change seasonally or locally, check the current situation before your visit. Playa Binibeca Nou is accessible by public transport in summer; check the latest services before travelling.
