Punta Prima can be explored through several coastal themes: Playa Punta Prima, the marine area around Illa de l’Aire and a section of the Camí de Cavalls offer different perspectives on the surroundings. Torre de Son Ganxo adds a historical dimension. For planning your trip, the beach, nature, a coastal path and the bus connection are all useful points of reference.

Playa Punta Prima and the Coast

Playa Punta Prima lies beside the urbanisation of the same name, between the headland of Punta Prima and Punta des Marbres. The sandy beach is about 200 metres long and around 75 metres wide. From there, you can enjoy views of S’Illot des Cagaire and the larger Illa de l’Aire with its lighthouse. White sand and clear water define the beach; the seabed consists of sand, rock and Posidonia seagrass.

At the beach, you can go stand-up paddleboarding and kayaking and explore the coastal stretch along the shore. These activities bring the shoreline and water into focus; the dive sites around Illa de l’Aire have their own features, described further below.

Camí de Cavalls: Stage and Coastal Path

The stage between Binissafúller and Punta Prima follows a coastal path linking Binibèquer, Biniancolla and Son Ganxo. It is flat and rated as easy. Surface conditions can nevertheless vary, so the character of the route cannot be summed up by its rating alone.

The Camí de Cavalls passes Caló Fondo, also known as Ses Olles. There, a low-lying, semicircular rocky area is especially well suited to diving because of its rich seabed. This means that the same stage offers both the route of the coastal path and a seabed of interest to divers.

Illa de l’Aire and the Marine Reserve

Illa de l’Aire is a small islet at Menorca’s southeastern tip. It covers about 45 hectares and lies approximately 1,500 metres offshore. The marine reserve covers around 719 hectares, of which 454 hectares are designated as a special diving area. These figures therefore refer to different areas: the islet, the entire reserve and the designated diving area within it.

Up to 634 different marine species and 31 benthic communities have been recorded in the sea around Illa de l’Aire. The seabed features Posidonia oceanica meadows and rocky areas, as well as numerous underwater caves and crevices. These features make the area attractive to divers. Check the applicable diving rules before visiting.

Torre de Son Ganxo and Practical Information

Torre de Son Ganxo stands opposite Illa de l’Aire. The defensive tower was built between 1785 and 1787, restored in 2011 and is considered one of Menorca’s best-preserved defensive towers. The construction period and the restoration year refer to different historical phases. The tower adds a distinct historical focus to the nature and coastal themes.
