Maria de la Salut: rural Mallorca between culture and coast

Maria de la Salut is a small traditional municipality in the interior of central-northern Mallorca. Open countryside, cultivated areas, wide skies and gently rolling terrain shape its rural character. The town is considered one of Mallorca’s agricultural areas and is associated with impressive views and a rural setting near the coast and the Bay of Alcúdia. At the same time, Maria de la Salut offers a peaceful alternative to the island’s more heavily frequented coastal tourism areas. From this rural location, coastal destinations and the Bay of Alcúdia are accessible.

Culture

The townscape combines everyday municipal structures with prominent cultural points of reference. The parish church preserves an old image of Our Lady of Good Health. There are also broad streets and a well-designed square associated with the town’s market and festivities. Plaça des Pou is a central meeting point. Local points of interest also include the town hall, Casa Font i Roig and Molí des Pujolet.

The agricultural character is also reflected in the produce associated with Maria de la Salut. This includes melons, garlic, almonds and carob, as well as the ramellet tomato, which is particularly prominent locally. Agriculture therefore appears here not only as a landscape feature, but also in the form of specific products associated with the town.

Cycling tourism and hiking are established activities in the Maria de la Salut area. They are based on the rural landscape and the surrounding routes.
