Estellencs: Hiking Trails, Coast and Architecture

When choosing a destination, specific questions can help: Would you like to start a stage of the Ruta de Pedra en Sec from Estellencs, choose a trail towards Puigpunyent or take a circular route to Cala Estellencs? Buildings in the town centre can also give your stay a cultural focus. The trails differ in their routes and destinations; for the coastal circuit, the distance, difficulty rating and duration are also specified. Hiking trails with different destinations

The third stage of the Ruta de Pedra en Sec GR221 starts in Estellencs and leads to Esporles. The Camí Reial starts near the public washhouses and heads towards Puigpunyent; at the Coll d’Estellencs, it reaches an elevation of 652 metres. The Route d’enllaç starts in the town centre, follows the GR221 parallel to the road to Andratx and extends to kilometre marker 97. The routes are therefore distinguished by their stated destinations: Esporles is the destination of the stage, Puigpunyent is the direction of the Camí Reial, and kilometre marker 97 is the endpoint of the Route d’enllaç.

The Baixada a la mar is a short circular route from the town centre to Cala Estellencs. The route is 3,200 metres long, rated easy and listed as taking 50 minutes. This makes it possible to compare the coastal circuit directly with the stage to Esporles: for the circuit, the route type, distance and time are specified, while the GR221 stage is described by its destination.

Accommodation and getting there

For overnight stays along the GR221, Sa Coma d’en Vidal is another option: the accommodation, accessible via the route through Estellencs, is on a 56-hectare public property and offers 24 beds. Four designated parking spaces are intended to make it easier to access the town and reduce traffic on its streets.

Buildings and art in the town centre

The Tem Alemany defensive tower dates from the 16th century and stands in the town centre. The Church of San Juan Bautista was built in the 17th century and altered during an expansion in the 19th century. Its bell tower incorporates a former 16th-century defensive tower. The buildings thus point to different periods in the town’s history: an older defensive structure and the later expansion of the church.

Art is also part of the townscape: metal sculptures stand at prominent points in the centre. They are by Mariano Navares, a Burgos-born artist who lives in Estellencs and was born in Miranda de Ebro in 1959. The sculptures provide another point of interest on a walk through the town, alongside the historic buildings and the nearby trail starting points.

Cala Estellencs: Coastal trail and diving

The Baixada a la mar connects the town centre with Cala Estellencs. According to the tourism description, the beach at the cove is particularly suitable for diving. A signposted route to the cove follows a paved ramp with shallow steps. Mallorca in a wider context

On Mallorca, the GR-221, also known as the Ruta de la Pedra en Sec, crosses the Serra de Tramuntana. This UNESCO World Heritage mountain landscape is characterised by cliffs descending to the sea, green valleys and clear streams. The Serra’s cultural landscape includes agricultural terraces, interconnected waterworks, including watermills, dry-stone structures and farmsteads. This regional perspective extends beyond Estellencs; the specific information about starting points, destinations and buildings relates to the town.
