Es Capdellà is a small village in Calvià, about 3 km from Calvià Vila. You can plan your stay around whether you are mainly interested in hiking or in the history of the cultural landscape.

Circular Hikes on the Galatzó Estate

The Galatzó Estate is accessible from Es Capdellà. On this public estate, the PR-MA 4 Sa Font de Sa Cometa is a complete circular hiking route. It starts at the main house and passes through the Comellar de na Llaneres to the Sa Cometa spring. Along the way, you pass terraced fields, holm oak groves and pine forests; the return route goes through the Bosc de Sa Madona. The PR-MA 4 is considered easy to follow and suitable for families. The estate also offers a guided tour of the Na Llaneres lime kiln. There are four hiking routes on the estate, with a combined length of 35 km.

The PR-MA 2 La Vall Verda is another easy circular hiking route. Its starting point is beside the public car park in Es Capdellà, on Carrer de les Platges. The route passes through Aleppo pine forests, agricultural land and holm oak groves. Both circular routes pass through pine forests and holm oak groves; the PR-MA 4 also includes terraced fields and the path to the spring, while the PR-MA 2 includes agricultural land. Check current trail conditions before setting out.

Routes Between Villages

The Es Capdellà–Estellencs Dry Stone Route connects Es Capdellà in Calvià with Estellencs. In the wider region, the RS1 route connects the two traditional villages of Calvià and Es Capdellà in the municipality of Calvià. The stated endpoints distinguish these connections: Estellencs is the second village on the Dry Stone Route, while Calvià is the second village on the RS1.

Water Engineering and Archaeological Heritage

The Sa Cometa spring is an example of traditional Mallorcan water engineering. Since the Islamic period, its water has been channelled through qanats and underground tunnels to the estate buildings, supplying them until the 19th century. The spring is therefore not just a point along the route, but also a reminder of how the estate buildings were supplied with water in the past.

A naviform structure is located at Ses Sínies; the Ses Sínies area is home to a Bronze Age archaeological site. For travellers interested in culture, these archaeological features complement the trails and historic water engineering with a distinct perspective on the area's past.

Cultural Attractions in the Wider Calvià Destination

Within the wider Calvià destination, Calvià Vila has its own historical highlights. As the municipality's oldest urban settlement, it is home to the Church of San Juan Bautista, which dates back to 1248. The present-day church has a historicist façade with neo-Romanesque elements, a large Gothic Revival window and two slender twin towers with the bell tower. An educational cultural route leads to twelve cultural, historical and architectural sights in Calvià Vila. If you would like to use the publication for guidance, check its availability in advance.

The traditional market in Calvià Vila is also held on Mondays. More than 60 stalls line Carrer Major, selling food, clothing, shoes and handicrafts. If the market is important to your travel plans, check the date in advance.
