Discover Gargallo
Accommodation in Gargallo
Gargallo brings together natural, outdoor and cultural attractions to help you plan your trip. The town lies in an area of natural significance near the source of the Escuriza River. Distinctive natural features, varied routes and a Baroque building offer several perspectives on the place. Which of these takes priority in your plans can be determined by the specific landscape and trail features.
Landscape along the Escuriza
The Escuriza River forms the small pools of Las Calderas. Different features stand out in the Majalinontes forest: nature and geology come together in eroded rocks whose outlines resemble people, animals and plants. The two features are clearly distinct: Las Calderas is known for the pools formed by the Escuriza, while the forest is known for its rocks, whose shapes evoke living things. You can therefore choose based on your interest in water or rock formations.
Trails and routes
The Senda de los Majalinontes is an 800 m family trail featuring seven “fantastical beings” inspired by local legends. As well as its short length, these storybook figures are one of its defining features. The Silent Route is on a different scale: it is 63 km long and winding. The route can be travelled by motorcycle or car, and by families and friends. The difference is not just a matter of length: the Senda combines a short trail with local legendary motifs, while The Silent Route offers a longer distance and a winding drive.
The PR-TE 93 leads to Gargallo via the Coscullar gorge and the TE-1332 road; from the upper part of the town, the trail continues downhill to Las Calderas. This sequence is easy to follow: the trail reaches Gargallo through the gorge and along the road, then continues downhill from the upper part of town to the pools. The A-1702, also known as The Silent Route, runs from Venta de la Pintada in Gargallo. When planning your route, it helps to distinguish between the names: the PR-TE 93 is the trail leading to Gargallo and continuing downhill, while The Silent Route is also the name of the A-1702.
Church and trip planning
The Baroque Church of Nuestra Señora de la Piedad dates back to 1707. It adds a distinct architectural theme to the landscape and trail attractions. Travellers wishing to combine nature and culture can therefore choose between different highlights: geological features and river pools on the one hand, and a historic church building on the other. The church can be included in your plans as a cultural point of interest, regardless of which route you choose.
If you are looking for a hotel in Gargallo, you can decide in advance what you would like to focus on during your stay: the landscape along the Escuriza, a particular trail or the Baroque church.
