Malón offers several ways to explore its cultural heritage and history: the Museo del Agua, a Castillo site protected as a cultural asset, buildings from different periods and a viewpoint with a historical background. There are also festivals with specific dates. You can plan your stay around water, architecture, landscape or the calendar.

Water and a circular route

The Museo del Agua focuses on the Queiles River. The museum is also open to the general public and offers guided and self-guided visits. Before you travel, check how to arrange a visit. This lets you take the type of visit into account when planning, rather than assuming a particular appointment or schedule.

You can also learn about traditional uses and systems for using the water of the Queiles in Malón. Together with the museum, this offers a thematic perspective that goes beyond simply presenting the river to include how its water is used.

Another way to explore is the Camino Perimetral: the circular route is about 3 km long. Its approximate length and circular shape give you a clear point of reference when choosing between a thematic museum visit and a route.

Castle, manor house and church

The Castillo de Malón is included in Aragón’s list of castles classified as Bienes de Interés Cultural. The site of the former castle is enclosed by a parapet designed as a crenellated wall. Its protected status and the surviving site are two distinct aspects: one gives the castle legal heritage protection, while the other describes the site as it stands today.

The Palacio de los Irazoqui is a three-storey manor house from the Baroque period, built in the 17th and 18th centuries. Its two lower storeys are made of brick. The palace also contains a Baroque skylight with a dome resting on pendentives. Its construction dates, number of storeys and materials offer different ways to understand the manor house’s architecture.

The Iglesia de San Vicente Mártir dates from the last quarter of the 16th century. Inside, star-ribbed vaults rest on figurative corbels bearing the heads of saints and heraldic motifs. Compared with the Baroque palace, the church is an older building with a different type of vault and figurative details. The two buildings offer distinct chronological and architectural features.

Views and history at the viewpoint

The Mirador del Almacabe offers views of Moncayo, Castile, La Rioja and Navarre. Its site also has a historical background: it stands on the grounds of a former Muslim cemetery, where excavations uncovered human remains. Landscape and archaeological history come together at this named location. This sets the viewpoint apart from the buildings, whose defining features are chiefly their architecture and construction dates.

Festivals and other travel connections

Malón’s main festivals are dedicated to Santa Cruz and take place from 14 to 18 September. The Hoguera de San Antón is also celebrated in January. These dates offer two distinct seasonal options for planning your trip. If you want to visit Malón for one of these occasions, check the current festival dates before travelling.

The Ruta Gastronómica por Tarazona, el Moncayo y Campo de Borja also begins in Malón. If you plan to include this route in your itinerary, check the latest route details. Specific festival dates and the starting point of a gastronomic route add further ways to plan your stay alongside the architecture and water themes.
