The Igreja de Santana stands in the town center; other cultural and landscape highlights range from Lapinha da Serra to waterfalls and historic trails. Which ones interest you most may shape your travel plans.

Church and Town Center

The Igreja de Santana is a religious heritage site and a Catholic church dedicated to the town’s patron saint, Sant’ana. Its simple design dates from the third quarter of the 20th century. Inside, vaulted ceilings define the spacious interior. In the center, you’ll find a place that reflects both Santana Do Riacho’s religious traditions and architectural history.

Cultural Heritage in the Municipality

In Lapinha da Serra, Batuque da Lapinha is a historic community heritage. This dance and music tradition is performed collectively with percussion instruments and celebrates both religious devotion and everyday life. Performances usually take place in the square or at community and festive events in Lapinha da Serra. If you’d like to see a performance, ask locally for specific dates before your trip.

The Trilha dos Escravos is a stone road and part of a protected cultural landscape complex in the municipality. Enslaved people built it during the colonial gold and diamond cycle in the 18th century to transport mineral resources and goods. The trail is 1.2 km long, up to 4 meters wide in some sections, and well preserved. It leads to the upper edge of the Véu da Noiva waterfall and the Mãe D’água spring. Check current access conditions before planning your route.

The rural area of the municipality is also home to the Lapa da Sucupira archaeological site, which is part of the Rota Origens das Rotas do CipĂł. The guided visit includes an easy walk of about 1 km and takes 1 hour and 30 minutes in total; it is suitable for visitors of all ages. Check in advance whether a guided visit is available.

Landscape Around Lapinha da Serra

Lapinha da Serra lies at an altitude of 1,100 meters on a plateau between two ridges of the Serra do CipĂł. The Represa da Lapinha consists of two lagoons separated by hills and connected by a channel. Kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, and swimming are possible at the reservoir; specific conditions may vary. This landscape combines a striking elevation with a body of water where you can enjoy a range of recreational activities.

Another nature destination in the municipality is Cachoeira Serra Morena, which consists of two waterfalls, Serra Morena I and Serra Morena II. The larger waterfall has a free-fall drop of about 100 meters and forms a natural pool of 300 m². The surrounding area includes gallery forest, Cerrado vegetation, and Campos Rupestres. At the waterfall, you can swim, hike, and observe the local fauna and flora; it is easily accessible and suitable as an outing for families and groups. Confirm with the operator in advance whether visits are available.

Cachoeira Bicame has a drop of about 100 to 120 meters and a swimming pool. The route there starts from the municipality’s administrative center or the village of Lapinha da Serra and follows a long, challenging trekking route. A local guide is essential for safe navigation to the waterfall. Check current trail and safety conditions before setting out.
