Discover Sacramento: Heritage and Nature
Accommodation in Sacramento
Sacramento can be explored through a range of themes: religious and architectural history, literature, local history, and nature. The Basílica do Santíssimo Sacramento and Chácara Triângulo represent the city’s religious and architectural heritage. Acervo Carolina Maria de Jesus and Museu Histórico Municipal Corália Venites Maluf offer two different perspectives on literature and history. The natural attractions also have different geographic contexts: Parque Náutico de Jaguara is a tourist complex in Sacramento, while the city is also one of the access points to the larger Parque Nacional da Serra da Canastra. When planning your trip, you can therefore distinguish between cultural highlights and nature-focused destinations.
Religious Heritage and Protected Architecture
Basílica do Santíssimo Sacramento is dedicated to Nossa Senhora do Patrocínio do Santíssimo Sacramento, Sacramento’s patron saint. It was the first basilica in the ecclesiastical province of Uberaba, which encompasses all of Triângulo Mineiro and Alto Paranaíba. The building’s significance can therefore be understood both through its dedication in Sacramento and its role in the wider ecclesiastical province.
Chácara Triângulo is a complex of buildings of architectural, historical, and religious value. The city of Sacramento placed it under protection by Decree No. 58 of March 12, 2007. The complex is also known as “Mansão do Amor,” “Culto do Amor Cristão,” “Recanto da Prece,” and “Casa do Caminho.” Centro Espírita Casa do Caminho is located within Chácara. The “Culto das 9h” is held there every day. This site thus brings together protected architectural history and a regularly held religious practice.
Literary Collection and Local History
Acervo Carolina Maria de Jesus includes diaries, novels, stories, proverbs, poems, images, short texts, and autobiographical accounts written by Carolina Maria de Jesus herself. The collection’s varied formats range from longer texts to short and visual works. Part of the Acervo is held at Arquivo Público Municipal “Cônego Hermógenes Cassimiro de Araújo Brunswick” in Sacramento.
A different perspective on the city’s history is offered by Museu Histórico Municipal Corália Venites Maluf, which opened in 1983. It preserves an extensive collection, including the first code of laws of the Câmara de Sacramento, an image of the city’s patron saint, religious and secular artifacts, and personal belongings of prominent residents of Sacramento. Unlike Acervo Carolina Maria de Jesus, which comprises the works of a single author, the museum brings together objects of different kinds and origins. The two collections thus offer different ways to explore Sacramento’s cultural heritage.
Lake, Hiking Trails, and the Serra da Canastra Natural Area
Parque Náutico de Jaguara is a tourist complex featuring a 33 km² lake and ecological hiking trails. The lake and trails provide different points of reference for understanding the complex: the size refers to the body of water, while the trails are another feature.
Sacramento is one of the access points to Parque Nacional da Serra da Canastra. Portaria 03 is 70 km from the urban area; if you include the national park in your travel plans, take this distance into account and check route conditions in advance. Regionally, the park extends across six municipalities: Capitólio, Delfinópolis, São João Batista do Glória, São Roque de Minas, Vargem Bonita, and Sacramento. It also protects the headwaters of the Rio São Francisco. This natural area, which spans several municipalities, is therefore distinct from Parque Náutico de Jaguara in Sacramento.
